Although this information already went home with the 9-12 student-athletes, this is a reminder that Tuesday night is the annual fall sports parent meeting. We are asking that parents and athletes attend. If not in attendance on this night the information and sign off form will be sent home. As always, the athlete will not be able to compete until the form has been returned to the office.

District Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services.
This is a document required by the state; The wording under each lettered question is USD 322’s response to the questions below:
PART I.
How the district will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other staff and the extent to which it has adopted policies, and a description of any such policies, on each of the following safety recommendations established by the CDC:
(A) Universal and correct wearing of masks.
The district required universal masks in the previous school year but will not to start the 2021-2022 school year. Any student or faculty member who would like to continue mask wearing will be allowed to do so (as they would have been in previous years).
(B) Modifying facilities to allow for physical distancing (e.g., use of cohorts/podding).
The district will function as it did last year in this respect. Which was to have in person school K-12. No cohorting, podding, hybrid learning was utilized in mass and will not be utilized at this point in time moving forward.
(C) Handwashing and respiratory etiquette.
Handwashing will continue to be encouraged and times dictated as in the past, as well as covering of coughs and respiratory etiquette. These were promoted as good health practices and decisions before the pandemic as well and will continue to be taught and stressed.
(D) Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities, including improving ventilation.
The cleaning procedures will return to post pandemic procedures. This means ANY health concerns from chickpox, to lice, to the flu, to covid will require targeted and specific addressing that would

expand if/as needed. Ventilation issues in an old facility are dealt with as possible with no central ventilation system in the vast majority of the districts’ facilities/buildings.
(E) Contacttracingincombinationwithisolationandquarantine, incollaborationwiththeState, local, territorial, or Tribal health departments.
This will be done at county direction as it would be with any illness deemed that dangerous (TB, meningitis, Mersa,) AND internally the district will handle absences, make up work and other school related things as we do with any other illness, minor or serious.
(F) Diagnosticandscreeningtesting.
The district does not do diagnostic screening and testing as a rule. We will continue expanded nursing hours and there will be diagnostic testing and screening as related to that position as there always has been with all illnesses.
(G) Efforts to provide vaccinations to school communities.
The distinct would gladly act as a sight for any vaccination efforts, but will not be providing or responsible for at this point in time.
(H) Appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities with respect to health and safety policies.
This aspect will remain as it has always been. There has always bee appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities in respect to health and safety. That does not change because of the addition of a new health threat.
(I) Coordination with State and local health officials.
The USD 322 school district will coordinate, collaborate, get information from and work with state and local officials as deemed appropriate by the local authority of the board of education.
American Rescue Plan Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services
Revised June 2021
Part II.
Describe how the district will ensure continuity of services, including but not limited to:
(A) services to address students' academic needs
Thanks to ESSER funds we are more able than ever to provide services to meet student academic needs in a wider variety of ways and at various locations. Academic needs and expectations will be addressed in all ways needed and possible.
(B) students' and staff social, emotional, mental health
SEL programs for the students and opportunities for the staff will continue as they have in the past. We have a wide variety and range of resources and services that have always been available to staff and any new ones will also be utilized as needed.
(C) other needs, which may include student health and food services.
As was stated earlier expanded professional nursing hours will continue, established policies pre pandemic will also continue for proper health services as a first level institution. Food services will also continue as normal with free meals to all again served per the USDA statement.
It is the intention of USD 322 to return to “business as usual”, as much as possible, in the fall of 2021. Obviously the district will follow any state or county mandates as agreed to by the board of education, should they be necessary. The policies, standards and operations of the district pre-pandemic along with variations of such as may be required by upper governmental authorities depending on changing conditions are capable of all necessary needs of health and safety as we make our way hopefully out of this difficult time.

Good morning fellow Buffaloes! Most students are already aware, but to avoid any confusion please note that the weight room will be closed on Friday, July 9th for summer weights. The summer weights regular schedule will resume on Monday, July 12th.

After two players were named to the All-State team on Monday, three more postseason accolades were awarded to Buffalo athletes when the first ever Twin Valley All-League baseball team was made official on Tuesday. Sophomores Zac Fisher and Colby Simkins were named to the All-State team, and they along with junior Jason Abitz were all three placed on the nine-player All-League team.
These three young men helped lead Onaga to a Twin Valley League championship in the the team's first ever varsity season, putting together great campaigns both at the plate and in the field. They all three also pitched for the Buffaloes this season, combining for 21 of the 22 starts on the season.
Congratulations to all three of these young athletes. With every athlete that played this season on both varsity and junior varsity coming back in 2022, the future of Onaga baseball looks bright! GO BUFFALOES!!!
Here is the entire list of the first ever Twin Valley All-League baseball team:
Jason Abitz - JR (Onaga) - P/OF
Kole Blevins - SR (Doniphan West) - P/OF
Preston Christenson - SO (Troy) - P

With Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) activities getting back to a normal schedule following adjustments due to COVID-19, the Summer Moratorium for 2021 is in effect. The week of Monday, June 28, 2021 through Sunday, July 4, 2021 has been established as the summer moratorium.
To follow KSHSAA guidelines "All member school athletic facilities will be closed during this period to school personnel and students grades 7-12. This moratorium does not impact fine arts or spirit activities." This message is to explain why during this time the weight room, gymnasiums, and wrestling room located at Onaga High School will not be available to student athletes.

Congratulations to Zac Fisher and Colby Simkins! In the first season of varsity baseball at Onaga High School, these two young sophomores helped lead the Buffaloes to a great start for the program. They ended the regular season on a five game winning streak, captured the Twin Valley League championship, won the program's first ever post season game in regional play, and went toe-to-toe with Maur Hill in the semifinals who was the #2 team in the state of Kansas.
For their efforts, yesterday these two young men were named Honorable Mention All-State. Zac was named to the team as a Shortstop. He had more homeruns than all the other shortstop nominees combined, was second among all 2-1A shortstops in the state in hits, second in RBIs, second in stolen bases, and fourth in both batting average and runs scored. Colby was named as a Shortstop/Catcher. Among all 2-1A shortstops and catchers, Colby was top ten in batting average, hits, runs scored, and stolen bases as the team's leadoff hitter. He also was one of the best catchers in 2-1A defensively. With each of these young men having two more years to play, the future looks bright for both them and the baseball program!
Congratulations again boys! GO BUFFALOES!!!

There was a basketball camp at USD 322 the first weekend in June that many of the local youth took advantage of participating in. The camp was run by Jacob Polk (without the hat), a fifth year high school basketball coach from Nebraska who took his 23-3 girls to the state tournament this year, and his young brother (with the hat) Zach Polk, who played college basketball at Morningside University in Sioux City, IA.
There were 32 campers in the younger group and 25 in the older group. They got a lot of great help from the Polk brothers and the local Onaga coaches as well. Basketballs and Gatorades were given away as prizes during the camp, while skills were learned for their years of play ahead. Unfortunately the younger group lost over half of their participants to a birthday party and the start of summer baseball before the picture was taken to start the second day, but the camp was a great success and the attendees enjoyed it!
A big thank you to the Polk brothers for putting on the camp and congratulations to the young people who committed to taking a step forward in their growth as Onaga basketballers! GO BUFFALOES!!!

Summer weights begins tomorrow, June 1st. The weight room will be open five days a week, with Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays being scheduled days. Wednesdays will be a "make up" day for students to attend if they missed one of the scheduled days that week.
There will be three sessions each day that begin at 6:00am, 7:00am, and 8:00am. Before school ended students had the opportunity to sign up for a session of their choosing, the schedule for which is attached.
As a reminder, students are to enter through the east doors of the high school commons area. Also, if they have not paid the $3.00 for insurance they need to have that on the first day of attendance. That $3.00 covers their insurance not only for the summer weights program, but also for athletics the rest of the school year.
If you have questions, please email our new P.E. teacher Peter Pfannenstiel at his email, peter.pfannenstiel1@gmail.com.

Tomorrow Onaga High School junior Casey Myers will be competing in the state track meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita. Casey placed 2nd at the Regional meet last week in both the 110m hurdles and the high jump, earning his spot at the state meet in both events. He's scheduled to run in the 110m hurdles preliminaries at 12:44pm, followed by the high jump at 2:00pm, and the 110m hurdles finals at 2:34pm.
Good luck Casey, GO BUFFALOES!!!

This past month, students in all levels of Spanish worked on reading and literacy activities. All of the books they read were written completely in Spanish for language learners, except for the novel read in Spanish 4 which was an authentic resource written for native speakers.
Mrs. Miller read the words aloud so that students heard the proper pronunciation and then the class helped to decipher meaning together, with support. Students also worked on writing quality summaries at the end of each chapter. Then, Spanish 1 and 2 students created their own storybooks, written in Spanish, as their final project. Spanish 1 students narrated in the present tense, while Spanish 2 students narrated in the past tense.
Ask your students about their books!

Congratulations to Casey Myers who took 2nd at Regionals in the high jump. He is now state bound!!!
