Wondering what to do during these hard times of being forced to stay at home? You can stay active and stay in shape by working out. you’re still in athletics, this will get you prepared for the fall season and potentially put you ahead of the progress made from other athletes.

It’s very hard to find inspiration during these hard times, but keep your head up! My family has been finding some fun activities to do like putting cartoon characters and inspirational quotes on our sidewalk to encourage others.

Mayginnes Named to Best of Kansas Preps Morgan Mayginnes, a senior at Onaga High School, has been named a recipient of The Topeka Capital-Journal’s Best of Kansas Preps Award. This recognition honors the best high school athletes in the state of Kansas. Sponsored by the Capital-Journal, the University of Kansas Health System – St. Francis Center, and Envista Credit Union, the awards aim to recognize athletes who have worked hard toward a goal and have been an inspiration on the field of play, in the gym, on the mat, in the classroom and in the hallways of our schools in Kansas. Mayginnes, a wrestler who won 1st in the 155-pound division of the Inaugural State Girls Wrestling Tournament held in February, has wrestled all four years of high school, while participating in volleyball, track and softball, too. Involved in the Federation Wrestling Program herself and guiding young wrestlers at the local level, she has helped build the Onaga program to a higher competitive degree. Signing a letter of intent to wrestle at Baker University this fall, Mayginnes plans to start on a career by going into Early Elementary Education. Being the first Onaga athlete selected for this award, Mayginnes is also the Girls Wrestler of the Year, which is a top honor. Traditionally, to recognize these student athletes a banquet has been held—but with the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, a star-studded awards show will be available at no charge at 6 p.m. CDT on Thursday, June 18. The show will feature more than 20 well-known professional athletes as hosts and announcers, providing an on-demand broadcast to maintain the tradition of honoring hundreds of student athletes for all the hard work and dedication in their sport during the past school year.

The USD322 board of education of the Onaga public schools has hired an interim Superintendent for the 2020-2021 School year . He is a long time experienced administrator from the state of Nebraska. Hello USD322, My name is Dan Polk, and my wife Deb and I are very excited about moving to the district. I was born in the panhandle of Nebraska and graduated high school in the Nebraska Sand Hills in a class of 18. My wife graduated from Papillion, Nebraska in a class of 460. I entered my education career as a teacher and coach and quickly worked my way into my first principal position by the time I was 30 years old, and my first Superintendent position by 35. I have always stayed in smaller school districts as I prefer being able to communicate and connect with students as well as staff and parents. I have only been at three districts as an administrator with 21 years at just two of them. After 8 years at my current district, I am leaving a two-year contract offer and coming to USD322. Deb and I have been married for 33 years in June and have 4 grown children. Jessica is a mental health counselor in Yankton, SD; Jacob is a teacher and coach in Utica, NE at Centennial Public schools; Zachary is a 6'10" sports director and play-by-play announcer in Windom MN; and Kaitlyn just graduated a semester early from Morningside in Sioux City, IA with degrees in communication and Non-profit business management. They all played one form or another of college athletics. The older two are married and the youngest is supposed to Marry in late July. We hope to get to know you all very soon. GO BUFFS!

Over the break, students have been receiving workouts from the Rack Performance app. Rack Performance did a social media challenge, which required a post-workout picture and the screen of the completed workout. Here are Laura and Eva Krohn, Emma Kolterman, and Grace Wegner.

Here’s some really valuable information for working through anxiety. Anxiety is an emotion many deal with on a daily basis and during a crisis, folks may be feeling a heightened sense of anxiety. It’s so helpful to be able to talk freely about it to family and close friends.
