4th and 5th grades participated in an engineering project the last couple of weeks as part of their science instruction. Each group of students were provided a basic kit for constructing a wind turbine, and then teams competed for their opportunity to go to the regional competition next Wednesday at Kansas State University.
This project was sponsored by the Kansas Energy Program and they not only provided the kits for the students, but also a portable wind tunnel and energy sensors for measuring energy. The students learned so much about renewable energy, the engineering process, and how to work together as a group, and they came ups with some really creative designs!

The Student Council is starting a "Staff Spotlight," where they spotlight a teacher at USD 322 and tell you a little bit more about them. For our first week, the staff spotlight is on Mrs. Stacy Rempe.
Mrs. Rempe is the Title 1 Teacher at USD 322. She has been a teacher for 31 years in Onaga. Thank you, Mrs. Rempe, for all you have done over the years!

CLASS OF 2022
To celebrate the high school career of our graduating seniors, we will “spotlight” each of them on this platform sometime during 4th quarter. Follow along with us as we share each senior’s photo and their advice for lower-classmen at OHS.

Mr. Kufahl's sophomore World History class just concluded their unit on the Scientific Revolution. Their project for the end of the unit was a "wax museum." Each student was randomly assigned one of the people discussed in class during the unit and they had to research them and put together a presentation. Today, they stood at the front of the class, then when the "button" was pushed, the "wax figure" came to life! They then told their life story and their contributions to the revolution.
Part of the assignment was to make an attempt at dressing up as their assigned person, and several students went all out! In these photos, Brianna Bates grew a mustache for her role as English physician William Harvey, while Maria Krohn and Rayce Fisher did their hair (or "hair" in Rayce's case) to look like mathematician and astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.

The Onaga Board of Education has contracted with KASB to assist with the search for a Superintendent who will take over for Mr. Dan Polk upon his resignation on June 30, 2022. In an effort to make the best possible selection, the Board would like to include as part of the search process a way for stakeholders to offer their thoughts on this very important position and process. The survey will be open today and will take responses until March 2nd.
Click the link to participate in the Superintendent search Survey Monkey:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/USD322
The surveys ask participants to share their ideas about the major issues facing the district in the next several years; the personal and professional qualities they believe are important for the superintendent, and the performance expectations they believe would mark that person's success. All responses are entirely anonymous and are delivered directly to the KASB search facilitator.

The high school basketball teams wrap up their regular seasons tonight in front of the home crowd at Onaga. The Buffaloes host Wetmore tonight, on what is also senior night for the basketball teams. There is no JV games tonight so the varsity girls will kick things off in the north gym at 6:00pm and the boys game will follow.
Also, the student section theme tonight is "Costume Night." The raucous section has made a great impact on games lately, helping give our Buffaloes a great home-court advantage and an atmosphere that is second to none in the TVL. Please help them continue that tonight, and feel free to join them in throwing on your favorite costume for a fun night in Onaga. It's the final time our seniors will play on their home court in their careers, come out and support them and BE LOUD!!!
Good luck to our teams tonight, GO BUFFALOES!!!

Winter sports are gearing up for the post season as both the wrestling and basketball teams are in action today in the final weeks of their seasons. The wrestling team competes in regionals today and just got underway. They are all competing for a chance to wrestle at the state meet next weekend, with any wrestler finishing in the top four today punching their ticket to Hays.
Then tonight, the basketball teams will host Valley Heights with JV games beginning at 4:45pm, varsity girls following at 6:00pm, and varsity boys wrapping up the evening. The student section is going with a "Hawaiian" theme tonight so throw on your favorite luau shirt and head out to the games. Also, it's Hall of Fame night in Onaga and Brian King will be inducted into the Onaga High School Athletics Hall of Fame immediately following the girls game. The ceremony will take place in the north gym.
It's going to be an action-packed day for Onaga athletics, good luck to all of our student-athletes! GO BUFFALOES!!!
