Summer weights begins once again after the week off due to the KSHSAA moratorium. The second half of the program begins on Monday, July 11th and will be open the same days and times as the first half.
Congratulations to Maria Krohn on her perfect attendance in the first half of the summer program! While she was the only one who attended all 18 days, there were several that made it 15 or more and that dedication is going to pay off in the upcoming sports seasons!
Keep up the hard work, GO BUFFALOES!!!

FYI -regarding a young man that lives in our school district, John Morbeto, who is waiting for a kidney transplant.
The COTA Golf for Life Tournament is scheduled at Cool Springs Golf Course in Onaga on July 16. They are still in need of a few more teams to register. Registration is $50 by July 13. Later registration is $60 per golfer. Student discount with ID is $30. Call the golf course if interested and to save a spot. This is an opportunity to have a great time while supporting this young man in need of a kidney transplant and subsequent costs associated with the procedure. Thank you for considering helping out.

Just a reminder that the first session of summer weights concludes this week on Friday, July 1st. Next week there can be no student-athletes in the weight room or gym per the KSHSAA moratorium. The second session will begin on July 11th with the same days and times as the first session.
Thank you to all of our student-athletes who have been attending and putting in the work to better themselves and Onaga athletics! And thank you to Ramon Fisher, Ty Poell, Kelsey Hitch, Craig Boswell, Dustin Utley, and Ben Kolterman for sacrificing their time to run the weight room in the mornings for our kids. Without you all summer weights wouldn't be possible, so thanks again!
GO BUFFALOES!!!

Buffalo Fun Club comes to an end this afternoon and with it the free school lunches. The second round Buffalo Fun Club, and Summer School, start July 11th. Breakfast and lunch will be served once again to all children (those attending summer school and/or any child 1-18 that wants to come up and eat). Breakfast will be served from 7:30am to 8:00am and then lunch will be served from 12:00pm to 12:30pm. Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Congratulations Colby Simkins, Zac Fisher, and Jackson Kolterman! The three Onaga baseball players were named to the Sports in Kansas All-State team for 2-1A yesterday. Colby made the 2nd Team as a catcher, while Zac and Jackson made the Honorable Mention team as a third baseman and shortstop, respectively.
All three of the Buffaloes were named 1st Team All-League this season, and Simkins and Fisher were named 2nd and 3rd Team All-State by the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches when the season concluded.
Congratulations once again Colby, Zac, and Jackson! We look forward to seeing more great things from you next season! GO BUFFALOES!!!

We are over half way through the first of two summer weights segments this summer and the week-long break around the 4th of July is just around the corner. With only two weeks left before that break, we hope for continued effort from our kids that have been attending thus far. The weight room is open for three sessions (6:00am, 7:15am, 8:30am) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. It is also open on Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm as a makeup day for those that miss their regular session during the week.
With stretching, strength training, as well as speed/agility training, the work put in this summer will directly affect our sports in 2022-2023. Keep up the hard work!

Don’t forget, free summer meals at the school began this week and runs through June 23rd. Breakfast is from 7:30am to 8:00am and lunch is from 11:00am to 11:30am. There will be no lunches on Fridays.
July will also have free summer meals and starts July 11th and runs through July 29th. Breakfast will be served from 7:30am to 8:00am and lunch will be 12:00pm to 12:30pm. Breakfast and lunch will be served Monday through Friday during the July session.

A day after being named 1st Team All-TVL, juniors Zac Fisher and Colby Simkins were named to the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches All-State team for Class 2-1A. An extremely difficult team to be named to, the KABC All-State team features a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team for their All-State selection, but unlike All-League honors, it's based on position. So being one of the top players in the state isn't enough if you aren't considered one of the top three in the state at your specific position. And to make matters even more difficult, Class 2-1A in Kansas has nearly double the amount of teams in it in comparison to the other divisions in the state, yet still has the same number of players named to its teams as 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A. Despite the difficulty in making the team, the two Buffalo baseball players were named as one of the top three in the state at their respective positions.
Simkins was named 2nd Team All-State as a catcher. The junior backstop was phenomenal at the plate this season, becoming one of the better hitters in northeast Kansas. He led the team in hits (30), RBIs (24), stolen bases (24), and led the team in quality at-bat score for the season (166), a number that is now the school single-season record. He was also second on the team in batting average (.455), OPS (1.098), and slugging percentage (.591), which were all three new career highs. As a catcher, Colby was as good as it gets in the state of Kansas in 2-1A. Blocking balls, holding runners, throwing out potential stealers, and framing pitches were all skills that Colby showed elite abilities behind the plate. While most of his time in the field was spent at catcher, he also was an elite shortstop and even first baseman at times when the team needed him to be.
Fisher was, just as he was last season, was one of the best hitters in all of 2-1A baseball in Kansas. He set school records for batting average (.475), on base percentage (.610), runs scored (37), and walks (18). He also led the team this year in OPS (1.397), slugging percentage (.787), triples (2), and was tied for the team lead in homeruns (3). He finished second on the team in quality at bat score (152), hits (29), doubles (6), stolen bases (22), and was tied for second in RBIs (23). While he made the All-State team as a third baseman, he also played shortstop at times, and, along with Simkins, served as one of the team's two main pitchers.
Congratulations Colby and Zac on terrific seasons. We look forward to watching you do more great things as seniors!

Congratulations to Zac Fisher, Colby Simkins, and Jackson Kolterman! With the conclusion of the baseball season over the weekend, the TVL All-League baseball team was announced yesterday. Fisher, Simkins, and Kolterman were all named to the team. The team is made up of nine players, regardless of position. For Fisher and Simkins, both juniors this season, this is their second straight All-League designation, and may be their third had COVID not cancelled their freshman season. For Kolterman, a freshman this season, it is his first All-League designation.
The Buffaloes finished undefeated in TVL play this season and Fisher, Simkins, and Kolterman finished as the top three on the team for the season in batting average, on base percentage, stolen bases, runs scored, and hits. On the mound, the three All-Leaguers were the top three on the team in innings pitched, and strikeouts.
Congratulations once again to Zac, Colby, and Jackson. We look forward to seeing more great things from you next season! GO BUFFALOES!!!

Just a reminder that summer weights begins this Thursday, June 2nd. Before the end of school, 7-12 grade students had the opportunity to sign up for one of three sessions (6:00am, 7:15am, and 8:30am) Those will begin on Thursday and will take place Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will be a makeup day for students who miss one of the scheduled days.

The summer lunch program at USD 322 begins June 6th. Attached is information on the program, who is eligible, and what meals will be provided on each day.

Congratulations to Konnor Nider! The sophomore golfer went out to Hesston Monday to the state golf meet and did quite well. He golfed a 90 on Monday which made the cut to golf in the second and final round of the event, which was supposed to be held on Tuesday. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the second round was cancelled and it will not be made up. So the results of the first round on Monday will be the final results. That means that Konnor's score finished tied for 18th at the state meet out of 83 participants, which earned him a medal.
Congratulations once again Konnor!
