Due to low player numbers and a high number of injuries at this time, the junior high football game scheduled against Frankfort on Thursday, October 13th, has been cancelled. The decision was made in the interest of the safety of our players. Thank you all for your support of the team during the season.

It may be the weekend but Onaga athletics is in full swing today. The junior high volleyball team is in Frankfort, currently taking on Troy in the Oregon Trail League tournament. Meanwhile, the high school football team is on the road this afternoon taking on Christ Prep. If you're heading to Lenexa to watch the football team, as always, you can find the address to the field on the sports schedules page under the Athletics tab on the district website.
Good luck to all of our Buffalo student-athletes today, GO BUFFALOES!!!

October is National Principal Month!
Mr. O'Dell is an outstanding leader for our school whom we celebrate today, and everyday! Thank you for the impact you make!

Ms. Kolterman's 5th graders have been studying mixtures and solutions in science. Yesterday they were presented with the challenge of finding something in nature that would completely dissolve into water, and therefore make a solution. Their focus question was “Are there materials outdoors that will dissolve in water?”
Thank you Ms. Kolterman for your innovative ideas in (and out) of the classroom!

Mrs. Ringel’s preschool parents adopted the staff work room on Friday and made lunch and goodies for teachers. Paths sparked the idea and one of our parents took it and ran with it, and got with all the other parents from the classroom and had a “taco about how awesome our teachers are” day!
The preschool decorated tacos and the parents provided a taco bar and treats. The preschoolers worked with Mrs. Sperber‘s fourth grade class to decorate all the tacos and Mrs. Sperber hung them in the staff break room for all to see!
Thank you Mrs. Ringel for orchestrating this event, and thanks for all you do for our kids at Onaga!

Ms. Danni Klah is a new teacher at Onaga this year, and her kindergarten class has been busy the past few weeks! As seen in the attached pictures, they first completed a Crystal Leaf Experiment. The Kindergarteners learned about leaves and the different kinds and shapes of them. They colored their leaves and did an experiment to crystalize them for decoration. After that, they went outside and walked along the tree line to look at the different types of leaves and trees. They used what they gathered to come up with interesting ideas of why the fall season changes leaves.
The kindergartners also got introduced to the school library and checked out a book for the very first time. They loved looking around the library and seeing all the different kinds of books to read in the classroom and at home to their parents. The kids also signed a "Class Contract." They were talking about fairness and their classroom rules and eventually came up with their own rules to add to the classroom rules they already had. They pressed their hands on the contract to make it official, their signature to follow the rules so they can all be fair.
Thank you Ms. Klahr for all you are doing with the kiddos here at Onaga!

October is breast cancer awareness month and as they've done in the past, the high school volleyball team is doing a "pink-out" for their volleyball games this month. With a JV quad coming up on Monday and a varsity quad on Tuesday of next week, both in Onaga, you have a chance to get the same shirts that the volleyball team is getting. The effort is to raise awareness for breast cancer and all proceeds go to the cause.
If you'd like to order your shirt, please follow the link below by the end of the day Wednesday so that you can have your shirt by next week.
Thank you for considering joining our girls in this cause and thank you to the volleyball team for joining the breast cancer awareness month!

The junior high volleyball team is on the road this afternoon as it heads to Wetmore for a triangular. The event just got underway minutes ago and will see the Buffaloes play both Wetmore and Northeast Kansas, which is a Christian school sports affiliation for homeschool students.
Also, as a reminder, the JV football game scheduled to be played at Riverside this evening has been cancelled. The JV game next Monday in Onaga against Christ Prep is still scheduled and, with Troy canceling their JV season at the beginning of the year, that will mark the final JV football game of the season.
Good luck to the ladies playing volleyball tonight, GO BUFFALOES!!!

Next week is Anti-Bullying Awareness Week!
As a school and community, we are adamant in our pursuit to promote prosocial behavior, emotional regulation, and positive interpersonal communication. We have doubled down on our effort to create a positive school environment and are committed to ending any and all bullying one step at a time.
Next week, we celebrate that cause by bringing awareness to bullying and need for everyone to seek personal growth. In addition to themed dress days, the Onaga school system will be adding behavioral information and challenges for students to complete to the daily announcements during the full month of October. All of this is in addition to our on—going Social-Emotional lessons in the classrooms.
Make the commitment to a better school environment with your participation in Anti-Bullying Awareness Week!
