The junior high football team improved to 3-0 on the season tonight with a 40-point win over Centralia. Now 2-0 in league play, they'll have another OTL game when they get back to action next Thursday at home against Blue Valley.

The cross country team and junior high football and volleyball teams are back in action today. The cross country team is hosting their annual invitational, so it'll be your only chance the check out the team here in Onaga this season. They'll be out at Cool Springs Golf Course with the girls starting at 4:00pm, and the boys to follow.
The junior high teams are on the road this evening as they head to Centralia for an OTL matchup. A reminder, there has been some time changes to the games tonight. The volleyball team will get things rolling at 5:30pm, while the football team kicks off their game at 6:00pm.

Mr. Kufahl's History of Onaga & Pottawatomie County class celebrated Onaga's birthday on Monday with some history. On September 15, 1877 ground was broke for the first building in Onaga. It was a business, the first one in Onaga, and was called the Landon House. It was a hotel owned by Amos Landon, a pillar of the early years of both Vienna and then Onaga.
A ceremony was held for the ground breaking and was described as follows: “Mr. Amos Landon was the first to take initial steps toward founding the city by immediately commencing excavation for the foundation of his hotel. Mr. Haven, (president of the Central Townsite Company), with pick in hand, broke the wild turf wherein should be built the chief cornerstone of the Landon House, and in the presence of those assembled, dedicated the town of Onaga to prosperity, and future political, commercial and moral greatness.”
The class took a trip down to the area believed to be where the hotel was built, right near the old LK&W tracks where they cross Leonard St. It was there that Onaga began, 148 years ago on Monday.

The high school volleyball team is back to TVL play tonight, as they head to Doniphan West for a triangular. Currently sitting at 4th in the league standings at 3-2, they'll take on Linn in their first match who is currently in 3rd at 3-1. After that, they'll take on the host Mustangs in a non-league matchup.

Congratulations to Lauryn Marten! The senior outside hitter for the high school volleyball team was named MSC Sports "Athlete of the Week." The website that covers high school and small college sports in northeast Kansas named Marten their Athlete of the Week this morning after the senior helped the volleyball team bring home the Frankfort Invitational championship over the weekend.
She currently leads the team in hitting percentage (.231) and is ranked #7 in Kansas's 1A Division I according to MaxPreps. She also leads the team in kills (79) and ranks #8 in the state in 1A-DI. From the serving line, her 13 aces on the season also ranks top 25 in the state.
After the championship over the weekend, the volleyball team is now 8-3 overall this season. Currently 4th in the TVL standings at 3-2, they are back in action tonight when they head to Doniphan West to take on the Mustangs and Linn.

All fall sports are in action this week. Here is the upcoming events and activities schedule!
On Saturday, September 13, crews from Energy Service Professionals (ESP) mounted new rooftop HVAC units at the high school, marking a key step in USD 322’s facility improvement project. The team has spent the past several weeks preparing infrastructure for the installation.
Approved by the School Board in August, the project includes 12 new HVAC units for the high school, high-efficiency LED lighting throughout both the middle and high schools, and a condensing boiler to heat the middle school. The upgrades became urgent in June when the existing boiler—responsible for heating both schools—failed beyond repair.
Funded through a lease-purchase agreement with Farmers State Bank of Onaga, the work has been scheduled primarily on evenings and weekends to minimize classroom disruption. Contractors report progress is ahead of schedule, with completion expected in October.
This project is the first in a series of anticipated facility updates and improvements the School Board hopes to complete in the near future.

Now 3-0 on the day and 7-2 overall this season, they are now taking on Washington County. After that they'll get an hour break, then play Valley Falls as they look to take home the championship of the Frankfort Invitational.

The volleyball team is off to a good start in Frankfort today. The girls knocked off Frankfort in the first game of the day, then beat Cair Paravel in straight sets as well. After lunch they'll look to sweep the tournament with games against Jackson Heights, Washington County, and Valley Falls.
