It was a clean sweep for the Buffaloes tonight at home against Doniphan West. For the softball team, it was a blowout of the Mustangs as they combined for 23 runs on the night while only giving up 1. That included 17 hits in the second game of the evening. The baseball team made things more interesting, as they went an extra inning in both games and ended both with walk-off hits. In the first game, Doniphan West tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning which would be the score heading into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Jackson Kolterman singled to open up the inning and worked his way around to third base before Casen Hutfles hit a line drive to the right field corner to win the game 4-3. In the second game, the Buffaloes dug themselves a hole early when they fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. But thanks to four and a third innings of scoreless pitching from Isaac Wegner, and one from both Korvin VanDonge and Jacob Ronnebaum, Onaga kept it at 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Xavier Berges got things started with a single, then Jackson tripled two batters later to make it 3-1. Then, with two outs, Dylan Magnett singled to make it 3-2. Keagan Venneberg would then score Dylan from second on a ball in play to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to extra innings. Jacob pitched another scoreless inning in the top of the eighth, and Maddex Honas got the bottom half of the inning started with a walk. He was able to work his way around to third in the next to at-bats, then with two outs L.J. Koelzer hit a shot to the fence in right-center to score the game-winning run. Our middle school students have been busy getting some extracurricular experiences! Last week our 8th grade students took a trip to the Kansas Capitol Building and the Combat Air Museum. These experiences allowed our students to expand upon what they are learning about in social studies class. Yesterday (4/16), our 7th grade students went to Kansas State University's campus for HirePaths Career Hunt. The students got to talk to people from many different professions to help guide them as they continue to plan for life after high school. These students represented Onaga schools very well. Thanks to all of the staff members that helped chaperone these experiences for our students!

A big congratulations is in order to our seven high school students who attended the KSHSAA Regional Solo & Small Ensemble Festival on Saturday, April 5th. Last weekend we traveled to Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Unlike other extracurricular competitions, each performance is rated individually through a range of criteria. These students are not competing against other students from other schools, but being individually "graded" by an adjudicator with professional experience in the music field. Our students both performed in their individual events and supported their peers by watching their performances. The following students received an Excellent (2) rating for their small vocal ensemble performance of "Over the Sea to Skye" by Joyce Eilers: Adalei Conley, Carmela Garcia-Losada, Chloe Howard, Rachel Leonard, Alyssa Rager, and Blake Williams. I am beyond proud of this group -- they had been working nonstop to perfect this performance. As none of them are seniors, I am excited for them to return next year to perform again! The following students took individual solo performances on their respective instruments and will not be advancing to the State Solo & Small Ensemble Festival: Junior, Rachel Leonard, vocal solo -- CO (Comments Only) and was given great feedback! Freshman, Blake Williams, vocal solo -- Average (3) Freshman, Blake Williams, alto saxophone solo -- Excellent (2) Sophomore, Adalei Conley, vocal solo -- Excellent (2) Sophomore, Adalei Conley, flute solo -- Excellent (2) Junior, Alyssa Rager, vocal solo -- Excellent (2) The following students will be advancing to the State Solo & Small Ensemble Festival at Hesston Community College in Hesston, Kansas on Saturday, April 26th: Junior, Lillie Weiser, alto saxophone solo -- Superior (1) Junior, Carmela Garcia-Losada, vocal solo -- Superior (1) A HUGE thank you to our amazing accompanist, Lisa Janssen, who not only performed with each of our students and traveled with us on the day of the Regional Festival but came in to rehearse weeks ahead of time to help our students prepare -- we couldn't have done this without you! Congratulations to ALL students who performed at Regionals and good luck to our students attending the State Festival on April 26th!
