The high school baseball and softball teams are back in action today in the first of two double-headers this week for both squads. The softball team will be on the road playing Pleasant Ridge tonight at Easton. The girls are sitting at 6-6 on the season and are currently sitting at 4th in their nine-team regional and a sweep tonight over the Rams would make finishing in the top four a near certainty. First pitch is set for 4:30pm at Easton. The address to the field can be found on the school website's athletic schedules. Meanwhile, the baseball team will be back at the friendly confines of Grover Eddy Field in Onaga to take on Oskaloosa. The Buffaloes come into the game 7-1 and are currently 2nd in their regional standings. The Bears are 7-3 and split their double header with Onaga last year, but a sweep tonight would put them in a tie for 1st in their regional standings. So come out tonight at 4:30pm, grab a Lion's Club cheeseburger and, and cheer on the Buffaloes. Good luck to both teams tonight, GO BUFFALOES!!!

Prom is coming to Onaga! The festivities are taking place on Saturday and here are some details for both students and parents to make sure everyone is aware of what is going on this weekend. - The prom walk kicks things off and will take place in the north gym at 5:00pm.. - The dinner and dance will follow at the community center. - After prom, put on by the senior parents, will take place back at the school. - Doors to after prom open to the commons area at 11:30pm, and games start at midnight. - Breakfast and senior prizes will conclude the night at 3:00am, and students will be dismissed after breakfast. NOTE: After prom is obviously a parent-led event and optional for the students. With that in mind, if a student leaves during after prom parents will be called and/or texted to alert them that their child has left. Also, no students will be re-admitted to after prom after leaving. Here's to a fun, safe, and memorable prom weekend!

The weight room at Onaga High School got a bit of a face lift today as two brand new weight racks were added to the facility. They arrived yesterday afternoon and today each class spent time assembling them. The new racks were purchased using funds raised from the Lift-a-Thons over the past several years. The intent is to continue to raise money and eventually replace all five racks in the weight room. The new equipment not only are exciting for kids, but create needed space for classes and make the limited time students have already much more efficient. As you can see in the pictures, weights can placed on the rack themselves while in the past they were scattered around the room on ten different weight "trees." The trees themselves took up a tremendous amount of space, and it also meant that students had to walk over to a tree to get the weights they needed, taking time from their workouts and creating more chaos in already packed classes with 20+ students moving around to get weights and put them back. The kids, staff, and coaches are excited about the new racks and are looking forward to more upgrades to the nearly 30-year old facility!

Mrs. Labbe's physics class, as a culminating activity to the buoyancy unit, brought three boats, made entirely of cardboard and duct tape, to the pool at Community HealthCare Systems, Onaga. Winning the individual timed race was "The Flying Dutchman," built by Brooklyn Boren, Jeramia Dorsey, Eva Krohn and Tyree FIgge. They also won an award for persistence and most enthusiastic rowing by Tyree. The "Jenny," built by Emma Kolterman, Alli Nider, and Wyatt Pennington, easily won the head to head race when all three boats were in the water at once. While the "Delorean", built by Julia Byers, Payton Falk, Zac Fisher, and Gabe Kufahl made an excellent showing initially, it won the Titanic Award for the most spectacular sinking! Nice job to the seniors who completed these projects!
