Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he’ll eat the rest of his life! Mrs. Thomas's junior high OREO and high school Wildlife Science students got hands-on fishing experience last week as they learned how to fish, and prepare the fish afterwards. The students went out to Anne Suther's new pond to do the fishing, and she helped facilitate both that and the post-fishing activities!

Three Onaga teams are in action today as the spring sports gauntlet starts to near its end. The junior high track team will be at home for the final time this season as they host the Onaga "Stampede" this afternoon. The field events began at 2:00pm at the Rosenfield Sports complex today, with running events to follow.
Meanwhile, both the baseball and softball teams will be playing today as well. The softball team is playing its final JV games of the season at Rock Creek, with first pitch set for 4:30pm. For those attending, Rock Creek had to move a varsity game to this day as well and because of that, they will not be able to offer concessions as a result of this change. If you plan on going, you may want to bring snacks if you are looking for any food or drink items.
The baseball team will also be on the road tonight as the varsity team takes on Jackson Heights. The double-header will be played in Netawaka with first pitch set for 4:30pm as the two teams meet on a baseball diamond for the first time in school history.
As always, to check out results, look at rosters, stats, and each program's history, head over to each team's page on the district website, links for which can be found below.

Last Friday the senior class enjoyed the annual history tour with Mr. Kufahl and local history guru Donn Teske. The morning featured some stops at local places like Con’s Cave, the Big Fill, the ghost towns of Bigelow and Irving, and was capped off by a visit to Alcove Springs, which was a major stop on the Oregon Trail and where the Donner Party camped on their infamous trip to California. After lunch they learned about historically significant people to the Onaga area, connecting the dots from our local past to present day.

Congratulations to the FFA's livestock judging team! The group went to Seneca last week and took home 1st place as a group in the contest. Senior Tyree Figge took home first place individually, sophomore Delaney Figge placed third, and sophomore L.J. Koelzer took 29th.
Congratulations again to the livestock judging team!

Recently Mrs. Thomas's Wildlife Science crew conducted vegetative surveys at the Konza Prairie Biological Center. Students were able to collect and analyze data with trained biologists in the field! Later, they visited with zoologists at Sunset Zoo and put their knowledge from earlier in the day to use, learning how to care for and monitor zoo animals.

Mrs. Kolterman's 5th grade class celebrated Earth Day last week by participating in the community clean-up project put on by the city of Onaga. They picked up all the trash they could find near the ball diamonds and park, and also found a bunch of cardboard to recycle.
The students also completed three sets of state assessments this year, so to celebrate the completion of those, the class played kickball as a group. It was a great day!

The baseball and softball teams are both in action today with league titles on the line, as they both take on Troy. The softball team will be on the road to take on the Trojans at 4:30pm. The girls enter the game 8-6 on the season with a 2-0 league mark, while Troy is undefeated at 12-0 and 2-0 in the TVL. A sweep of the Trojans will win the league outright while a split would give them a share of the title.
Meanwhile, the baseball team will be hosting Troy for a double-header beginning at 4:30pm. The Buffaloes enter at 9-1 and are 4-0 in the TVL, while the Trojans come in with a 5-5 record and a 1-1 league mark. A sweep would give Onaga its third title in as many seasons of varsity baseball, while a split with Troy would guarantee a share of the league title.
Good luck to both teams today as they look to bring home league championships! GO BUFFALOES!!!

This week Mr. Kufahl's History of Onaga & Pottawatomie County class went on one of their history tours and visited Con's Cave outside of Wheaton. The old homestead was the home of Conrad Winkler and has some interesting stories/tales that go along with it. It is always one of the most enjoyed trips of the class and this year was no different!
A big thank you is owed to Alan Fischer for letting them explore the property!

The high school track team is on the road today for the second time in three days as they head to Frankfort for their invitational meet. This will be the team's second trip to Frankfort this season as they opened the year at their annual Arctic Meet. Field events get underway at 3:00pm.
To check out the roster, look at the schedule, keep up on results, and look at the program's history, head over the the track team's page on the school website, a link for which can be found below.

Congratulations to Emmarsyn Fordham! The freshman had a record-breaking day yesterday in the weight room when she squatted 305 pounds! The lift broke the previous record set by Maria Krohn of 300 pounds. Maria previously held all three of the girls lifting records at Onaga and with her being a junior this year and Emmarsyn being a freshman, it will be fun to watch the two young athletes push each other over the next year!
Congratulations once again Emmarsyn, keep up the hard work!!!

The whirlwind of spring sports continues today at USD 322. Last night the softball team swept Pleasant Ridge in Easton, while the baseball team was at sweeping Oskaloosa. Today, the other spring sports teams are in action as the junior high team is already underway in Frankfort. Meanwhile, the high school track team is on the road at Jackson Heights with field events beginning at 3:00pm, and the golf team is at Horton for a 3:00pm shotgun start. That will be five sporting events this week thus far, with three more to go!
Good luck to the track teams and the golf team today, GO BUFFALOES!!!
