USD 322: Families, Kansas Gas and Hood Plumbing-Electric-Gas have been onsite all afternoon making the necessary repairs and thoroughly checking the facility including all gas applicances. Early this evening, we were given the all-clear for normal session to resume tomorrow. In addition to the servicemen working so diligently on our facilities, I want to personally thank our staff for pulling together on such short notice to feed and dismiss our students in such a collaborative and orderly fashion. Not only were staff stepping in to assist where needed, high school students also assisted with serving elementary meals and helping elementary students through dismissal processes. I am so proud of the generosity shown, the calmness demonstrated, and the leadership of all involved to organize such a prompt departure. We truly appreciate the flexibility of our families and community when the unforeseen arises. We look forward to seeing everyone again in the morning! With greatest appreciation, -Trevor W. USD 322: Families, out of precaution, we will be sending students home starting at 12:30. We discovered a gas smell outside and immediately notified Kansas Gas. Kansas Gas has assured us that since it is small, above ground, and outside the building, all students and staff are safe. Due to the need to shut of the gas for repairs and the extensive checks following, we will send all students and staff home starting at 12:30 to allow them repairmen space to work. Buses will run at 12:30. If you would like to pick-up your student, please do so SOUTH of the building. Please avoid the bus lane.

Mrs. Thomas's 7th grade science students took a field trip to the Konza Biological Research Station this week. They learned about different management practices and how this effects biodiversity on the tall grass prairie. A great hands-on science trip that the kids thoroughly enjoyed!

The American Flag is a time-honored symbol of freedom and liberty. For 247 years, Americans have honored this representation of democratic life. In USD 322, we hope to continue the respect and honor shone to the flag. As you can see on this beautiful September day, both state and national flags are flying high. A newly formed middle school student group will soon take the lead on raising and lowering the flag. Over the past few weeks, intricate plans have been taking place behind the scenes to form a middle school Student Focus Group with the purpose of improving the middle school community, give voice to middle school students, and develop responsibility by taking ownership in planning and coordinating middle school functions. This group will work through an introductory exposure to parliamentary procedure, the basic rules for governing civil and democratic meetings. Through these functioning, the group will develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills such as problem solving, gratitude, encouragement, and leadership while tackling local concerns such as anti-bullying practices. The Student Focus Group is comprised of nine middle school students: three student representatives from each of the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Two of these three per grade level are elected by their fellow classmates, and one per grade level is elected by the middle school teachers. Over the next few weeks, this group will work with the local Lion’s Club to learn proper flag handling. Once this training is complete, the student group will be responsible for the daily raising and lowering of the flags. We are extremely thankful to our local organizations for assisting in these civic engagement and learning practices for our students. There is a myriad of knowledge and history available within our community, and we are thankful to those who are willing to impart these attributes to our students through these partnerships. Until the students take ownership of the flag handling responsibilities, they will be handled by adult staff members within the building.

Each student received a book and sticker to take home, and they also donated a couple of extra books to the school library. Thank you to our guests, Sheriff Jager and Deputy Frank!
