The fall sports season is finally upon us and your chance to get a first look at all three of the high school teams comes this Thursday night during the Buff Bash scrimmages. The volleyball team takes the court first at 5pm in the north gym of the high school, while the football and cross country teams start their scrimmages at 6:30pm at the Rosenfield Sports Complex. If you can't make the scrimmages in person, all of the action can be seen on the NFHS Network by visiting the district website, usd322.org, and clicking on the orange button that says "NFHS Network" on the home page. Good luck to all of our fall student-athletes this season, GO BUFFALOES!!!

The hospital has shared that they have done quite a few PCR tests and we have had most of our high schoolers return to school on Day 7 of quarantine. This has been terrific to have them back a few days earlier from quarantine. They have reported that they have had no one show up for antigen testing, especially the elementary students who were placed on quarantine. I totally understand it may be impossible for you to bring them in daily for an antigen test or you don’t want them to have one. I did want to share some more information that may be helpful to know in the event you choose to get them tested to return sooner to school. Antigen testing is from 7-9 am in the hospital parking lot. This is the less invasive nose swab whereas the PCR test in the deeper nose swab, that is more uncomfortable. Starting tomorrow, 8/25/21, if you bring your child in for a PCR test, if they test negative, they can come to school as early as tomorrow’s negative results and do not have to quarantine anymore. It takes about 1 hour for the PCR test to come back and for them to give you a result. If you compelte the consent form, they send a secure email message to school letting us know your child can return. If you would rather have the daily antigen test on days 7-10, it is a 15 minute test, and once they have the results, they send a secure email to the school each day your child tests negative and your child can go to school each day they test negative, while wearing a mask. In the meantime, for all PK-12 parents, if you plan to do a PCR test tomorrow for your child, please send me an email by 7 pm tonight and I will let the hospital know how many to plan for Wed morning in the parking lot. If you plan to do antigen testing instead on days 7-10, please let me know by 8pm nightly and I will let the hospital know too so they can plan on having personnel available on those days in the parking lot. Please feel free to contact Sierra Valburg, school nurse, or myself if you have any questions. Thank you.

I have posted more information regarding antigen and PCR testing for parents of quarantined students on the LiveFeed on the district website. I just wanted to further explain options in the event you are interested in testing your child to allow for a quicker return from quarantine. I understand your work schedule may make it impossible but I wanted to share the information in the event it is something possible you might be interested in. Thanks again to all parents for keeping your children home if they are exhibiting extreme fatigue, headaches, congestion, etc. Thank you!

USD 322 Onaga-COVID 19 Talking Points Community HealthCare System (CHCS) is collaborating with USD 322 Onaga school to assist in getting your children back in school! What to know! If your child is on quarantine and you want them to return to on-site school instruction, please follow these guidelines. Ensure to understand what your child’s exposure date is (Day 0), not the day you were notified. Call CHCS to schedule your child’s visit the day before. You are able to set up multiple day registrations for timely scheduling if you plan to do throughout their quarantine. For Monday appointments, call Friday or Sat AM between 8-11:30 am. Days 1-6 of quarantine will require a “negative” Antigen test to return to school with a mask. The child may continue to receive an antigen test through day 10 if you choose and not undergo a PCR test but will be required to wear a mask. CHCS can test on Day 7 of quarantine with the PCR test. On Day 7, with a negative PCR, the child may return with a mask on that day, however on days 8-10 they would not have to wear a mask and are no longer in quarantine. Parking: designated parking in front of the clinic will be blocked off with cones to allow for swabbing to take place in the car. DO NOT ENTER FACILITY. Results: Negative: Child will be given a handout from CHCS that designates the date and negative result. They will present with the school with this handout and be allowed to attend school with a mask. Positive: CHCS will attempt, to contact legal guardian of child with positive test results. Child will be unable to return to school with any positive results. Have your child arrive 5 minutes early for their appointment and await staff to swab them. Depending on the type of test, the student will be requested to stay and await results (antigen). The PCR is longer and the student will be able to leave and await results via phone. Complete Consent form and Specimen Submission form daily and have ready when technician presents to swab the student. Additional forms can be found at USD 322 or at CHCS. A student is allowed to get the test if they present a consent form signed and completed by their parent, in the event the parent is not able to be present.

District Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services. This is a document required by the state; The wording under each lettered question is USD 322’s response to the questions below: PART I. How the district will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other staff and the extent to which it has adopted policies, and a description of any such policies, on each of the following safety recommendations established by the CDC: (A) Universal and correct wearing of masks. The district required universal masks in the previous school year but will not to start the 2021-2022 school year. Any student or faculty member who would like to continue mask wearing will be allowed to do so (as they would have been in previous years). (B) Modifying facilities to allow for physical distancing (e.g., use of cohorts/podding). The district will function as it did last year in this respect. Which was to have in person school K-12. No cohorting, podding, hybrid learning was utilized in mass and will not be utilized at this point in time moving forward. (C) Handwashing and respiratory etiquette. Handwashing will continue to be encouraged and times dictated as in the past, as well as covering of coughs and respiratory etiquette. These were promoted as good health practices and decisions before the pandemic as well and will continue to be taught and stressed. (D) Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities, including improving ventilation. The cleaning procedures will return to post pandemic procedures. This means ANY health concerns from chickpox, to lice, to the flu, to covid will require targeted and specific addressing that would American Rescue Plan Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Revised June 2021 expand if/as needed. Ventilation issues in an old facility are dealt with as possible with no central ventilation system in the vast majority of the districts’ facilities/buildings. (E) Contacttracingincombinationwithisolationandquarantine, incollaborationwiththeState, local, territorial, or Tribal health departments. This will be done at county direction as it would be with any illness deemed that dangerous (TB, meningitis, Mersa,) AND internally the district will handle absences, make up work and other school related things as we do with any other illness, minor or serious. (F) Diagnosticandscreeningtesting. The district does not do diagnostic screening and testing as a rule. We will continue expanded nursing hours and there will be diagnostic testing and screening as related to that position as there always has been with all illnesses. (G) Efforts to provide vaccinations to school communities. The distinct would gladly act as a sight for any vaccination efforts, but will not be providing or responsible for at this point in time. (H) Appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities with respect to health and safety policies. This aspect will remain as it has always been. There has always bee appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities in respect to health and safety. That does not change because of the addition of a new health threat. (I) Coordination with State and local health officials. The USD 322 school district will coordinate, collaborate, get information from and work with state and local officials as deemed appropriate by the local authority of the board of education. American Rescue Plan Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Revised June 2021 Part II. Describe how the district will ensure continuity of services, including but not limited to: (A) services to address students' academic needs Thanks to ESSER funds we are more able than ever to provide services to meet student academic needs in a wider variety of ways and at various locations. Academic needs and expectations will be addressed in all ways needed and possible. (B) students' and staff social, emotional, mental health SEL programs for the students and opportunities for the staff will continue as they have in the past. We have a wide variety and range of resources and services that have always been available to staff and any new ones will also be utilized as needed. (C) other needs, which may include student health and food services. As was stated earlier expanded professional nursing hours will continue, established policies pre pandemic will also continue for proper health services as a first level institution. Food services will also continue as normal with free meals to all again served per the USDA statement. It is the intention of USD 322 to return to “business as usual”, as much as possible, in the fall of 2021. Obviously the district will follow any state or county mandates as agreed to by the board of education, should they be necessary. The policies, standards and operations of the district pre-pandemic along with variations of such as may be required by upper governmental authorities depending on changing conditions are capable of all necessary needs of health and safety as we make our way hopefully out of this difficult time.
