After a week of regionals, Onaga is sending one team and four individuals to state competitions next week. On Tuesday, two golfers were the first to punch their ticket to the state meet when junior Konnor Nider and freshman Graham Valburg qualified by each placing in the top 10 at the 1A regional in Seneca. The team placed 5th out of the 9 team field, with Nider leading the team with a score of 87. That score was one stroke off his personal best, and placed him 6th out of the 44 golfers in attendance. Not far behind was Valburg, who shot an 89. That was two strokes off his personal best and placed him 8th in the meet. The two golfers will both head to Emporia for the state meet on Monday for the two-day event. Later Tuesday afternoon, the baseball team would beat league foe Blue Valley 15-0 to advance to the semifinals of their regional tournament in Onaga. Then on Wednesday, the team took down Jackson Heights 11-1 in the semifinals before knocking off Valley Falls 8-5 in the championship game. It's the first state tournament appearance in the program's three year existence as a varsity program, and the Buffaloes will take an 18-3 record to Great Bend on Thursday where they will be the #4 seed. Their first round game will come against #5 seed Medicine Lodge who comes in at 17-4 on the year, with first pitch set for 1:15pm. Finally, yesterday afternoon out in Mankato, two freshmen girls punched their ticket to the state track meet. Lillie Weiser was the first to earn her trip to the meet when she pole vaulted 9'6" to tie the school record she set earlier this season. That number placed her 3rd in the event, earning her a spot at the state meet. Not long after, Weiser recorded another state-earning number when she triple jumped 35'7". That placed her 2nd in the event. Moments later, the shot put event wrapped up and when the dust had settled, Emmarsyn Fordham had finished 4th with a throw of 35'5.75". The two young ladies will compete next Friday at the state meet in Wichita in the first of the two-day event. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on their state berths, and good luck next week! GO BUFFALOES!!!

The baseball team is heading to state next week and as of this morning, we have a game time. The Buffaloes will enter the tournament as the #4 seed, and will play the second game of the day on Thursday against #5 seeded Medicine Lodge. Game time is set for 1:15pm, but keep in mind that if the first game of the day would happen to go longer than expected, Onaga's game time could be pushed back as well. Also, many have inquired about state baseball shirts. Those are now available as well, but need to be ordered as quickly as possible. Lasting Impressions in Holton will have them done early next week and available for pickup in Onaga by Monday or Tuesday. A link to order your state baseball shirt can be found below. https://lastingimpressionsofks.com/onaga_baseball/shop/home

Strategic Plan Invite
The chaos that comes with the end of the school year is being amplified by the postseason portion of spring sports being in full force. After regional golf yesterday (congratulations to Konnor Nider and Graham Valburg, full writeup to come later!), and regional quarterfinal wins by both the baseball and softball teams, things aren't slowing down. This afternoon, both the baseball team and softball team are back in action at 2:00pm. The softball team, after an 8-5 win over Jackson Height yesterday, is gearing up for their semifinal game this afternoon. The girls entered the tournament seeded #5, and will take on #1 seeded St. Marys in Alma this afternoon, with a chance to play in the championship game coming later this evening on the line. Meanwhile, back in Onaga, the boys will be gearing up for their semifinal game as well. The boys entered the top seed in the tournament and beat #8 seeded Blue Valley 15-0 last night. At 2:00pm today, they'll take on #5 seeded Jackson Heights, with a trip to the championship game later tonight on the line. Good luck to both teams today on your journeys to the state tournament! It's a full day of Onaga athletics as three programs begin their postseasons. The golf team is just about set to get underway in Seneca for their regional tournament, with tee time set for 12:00pm. The softball team just got a police escort out of town, as they head to Alma for their regional first round game against Jackson Heights. That will be the first game of the day in that regional, with first pitch set for 2:00pm. Meanwhile, back in Onaga, the baseball team is gearing up to host the first round of its regional. With games being moved from yesterday to today, and because of the continued rain through the night, there have been a lot of changes made to that schedule. The games today have been moved back to a 3:00pm start time to allow the field to dry out as much as possible. Blue Valley and Horton will kick things off at 3:00 with the first game, Jackson Heights and Jeff County North will follow in the second matchup, and Onaga will finish out the night playing the winner of the first game. There will be 25 minute breaks between each games. To check out each team, follow results, and much more, head over to each team's page on the district website, links for which can be found below.
