Tonight marks the final non-league game of the regular season for the high school basketball teams, as they get set to host the Northeast Kansas private school out of Topeka this evening. The games kick off at 4:30pm with the JV girls in the north gym, then at 5:45pm the varsity girls will take the court, with the JV boys playing in the south gym. After the girls game, the varsity boys will cap off the night. A reminder, if you purchased a "Team Chamley" shirt, we ask that you wear that tonight and tomorrow to the final home games of the season. Between games, we will be taking a picture in the stands of everyone in attendance with their shirt on. Also, plan to eat your supper at the home game on Friday as we will be having a benefit meal with the proceeds going to the Chamley family. Good luck to both teams tonight! GO BUFFALOES!!! Just a reminder, if you have a student in Pre-K through 8th grade and have a little extra time, it would benefit us greatly for you to follow the link below and fill out a short survey by this Friday, February 16th. The district is considering the addition or continuation of an educational enrichment program for our students. This opportunity is available through a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant administered by the Kansas Department of Education. This grant could provide an opportunity for the district to offer before school, after school, and summer programs that include both enrichment and academic activities. In order for the district to apply for the competitive grant, it is required that a needs assessment of the families and students attending the school(s) be completed. This assessment survey allows us to identify which program type (morning, after school, and/or summer) would be of most benefit to our district's families and helps us to learn about your needs. The survey will take no longer than ten minutes to complete. As you complete the survey, please think carefully about your circumstances and how such a program might best serve you and your child(ren). Please remember that the data gathered in this survey is anonymous and will be used to apply for the grant and guide program development. Thank you in advance for your support. https://surveys.greenbush.org/s3/21st-CCLC-Parent-Needs-Assessment-2024

Parents, with sickness going around please check out the school's health policies outlined in the student handbook. Page 32 in the handbook and Appendix C are great resources to check out and can both be found on the school website under the "Explore" tab and then by clicking on "Documents." Just a reminder, we have a 24 hour fever-free without medications policy. and a 24 hour vomit-free policy before returning to school. These and other details can be found in those documents. Also, dental screens are coming up! They take place every February, and this year our school is being screened February 29th from 9am to 11am. If you would like to opt your child out of this screening, follow the link below to print off the form and then return it to the school. https://5il.co/2epb1

With multiple teachers gone yesterday due to illness and a variety of other reasons, in addition to a shortage of subs for those same reasons, Onaga was in desperate need of additional support in the grade school yesterday. With staff stretched thin, numerous high school students stepped up to lend a helping hand. Throughout the day, students during advisory classes, independent studies, and those that had some free time during regular classes went down to the elementary to help out staff in numerous classrooms. It was another example of the great kids that we have a USD 322, the leadership abilities they possess, and their willingness to help when it's needed. It was another GREAT day to be a Buffalo!!!

Red Friday!
Last week, Onaga held its annual spelling bee. The event started off with the "Mini Bee," which for the 1st through 3rd graders. 2nd grader Zoey Starns won that competition after correctly spelling "credit," making her classmate, Ryker Miller, the runner-up. After that the spelling bee began with 14 contestants, and after several rounds there were two contestants left. A long, back-and-forth battle ensued between 7th grader Rayna Meyerkorth and 6th grader Jovin Matson. In the 11th round Rayna was able to correctly spell "contagion," and then correctly spelled "slakes" to win the event in the 12th round. Both Rayna and Jovin will now compete at the Pottawatomie County spelling bee in St. Marys on February 17th. The winner of that competition moves on to the state spelling bee, and the winner of that will compete at the national competition. We would like to thank Mrs. McNally for putting together the spelling bee, Mr. Kufahl for being our announcer, Mr. Kite for being the judge, and Mrs. Claycamp for being our recorder. And good luck to Rayna and Jovin next Saturday at St. Marys!!!

One night a year, the high school basketball teams and the wrestling team host events on the same night. That happens today as the wrestling team hosts its final event, and the basketball teams host Blue Valley. The wrestling team got things going at 3:00 this afternoon, and later will be celebrating their senior night. Tatum Lara, Rylie Honas, Landon Koelling, and Hunter Lamond will be wrestling in Onaga for the final time this evening, and we will be honoring them and their parents this evening for their commitment to Onaga wrestling. Senior night festivities will take place prior to the last round of the meet. The basketball teams are also at home and will be doing their annual "Throw Back" night, with all games being played in the old gym. The JV girls are playing two quarters, which began at 3:45pm, then the JV boys will play a full game after that. Then, at 6:00pm, the varsity girls will hit the floor, followed by the varsity boys. Players are warming up in throwbacks, students will be wearing throwback Onaga gear, and we encourage everyone attending to wear their throwback Buffalo gear as well! It's going to be a fun night at OHS, come out and join us to cheer on our Buffalo basketball players and wrestlers! GO BUFFALOES!!!
