Postseason for winter sports continue this week with sub-state basketball the next two days, and state wrestling at the end of the week. Also, good luck to the junior high scholars bowl team today in the league meet at Sts. Peter & Paul.
Here are the activities scheduled this week!

Jesse Miller is heading to state! The freshman wrestler entered today's regional tournament in Council Grove as the #6 ranked wrestler in Kansas for the 106 pound weight class, and with a 23-5 record earned a bye in the first round. By advancing to the semifinals with the bye, he had already secured a spot at the state meet next weekend. But after a pin in the second period of his second match, a regional championship was on the line. Unfortunately he was pinned in the third period of the final match, giving him a second place finish.
That will send Jesse to the state meet next weekend in Hays, where he will face a third place finisher from another regional in the first round. Wrestling will begin at 9:00am on Friday, and will conclude on Saturday in Hays.
Congratulations on a great day Jesse, and good luck in Hays! GO BUFFALOES!!!

At the regional forensics today, sophomore Adalei Conley and freshman Blake Williams both qualified for the state forensics meet! The two placed second in Improvised Duet Acting at a big meet in Marysville today with a lot of larger schools, and Adalei also made it to the finals in Impromptu Speech and finished 6th, which will also earn her a medal. The two will compete at the state meet in McPherson on May 3rd.
Congratulations to Adalei and Blake and good luck at the state meet in May!

USD 322 Onaga-Havensville-Wheaton will return to school tomorrow, (Thurs. February 20th) with a 2-hour delay. School will begin at 10am. Welcome back and make sure to dress warm!

Every year in Mr. Kufahl's "History of Onaga & Pottawatomie County" class, new information is found and new discoveries are made when looking deeper into the history of the area. This year, when discussing early of the town, they learned about the story of Richard Armstrong who was the third mayor of Onaga. In doing some research it was discovered that, according to the "Onaga Journal," Richard was actually the first black mayor of any city in the history of the state of Kansas.
Richard was a hardworking citizen of early Onaga that was well-liked by everyone who knew him, according to the articles he's mentioned in. He won a tight race, the first close election for several offices in Onaga's infancy, and served one term as mayor after being elected in 1885. He passed away at the age of 41 in 1888, and later his daughter was buried beside him in the Onaga Cemetery. That last piece of information is how the class was able to figure out where he was buried, so they set out to find his grave in the cemetery. That was a difficult task considering the recent weather, but after a bit of snow removal they were able to locate Richard's grave on the west side of the grounds.
It was a cool story about one of Onaga's early citizens and another way to get out and see the history of our town that is all around us!
