ATTENTION 5th-12th Grade BAND and VOCAL PARENTS: As my number one concern is SAFETY for our students and the Onaga Community. We are all aware of the rapid spread of the COVID 19 virus. To help minimize this spread. The 5th-12th grade band and vocal concert will not take place on Tuesday November 24th. More time will be needed to practice with kids to give the best performance possible. Due to the difficulty of students recently in quarantine, rehearsing as an ensemble has been exceedingly difficult. However, to ensure that parents can see the progress and performance of our students. I will be videotaping the concert and posting online for the community to view. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. However, I do want to ensure the safety of our students, family, and friends come first.

Another portion of last week's mock election was the debate held the day before the voting that was done by the entire school. The presidential candidates were represented by Caidin Meyer (Mike Pence), Rebecca Krohn (Donald Trump), Caidryn Kaberline (Joe Biden), and Glennys Ross (Kamala Harris). Mrs. VanDonge was the moderator for the debate. She and Mr. Kufahl prepared topics that pertained to actual current government issues and the candidates had to research and prepare to answer questions about those topics as if they were the actual candidates. The four students representing the candidates did an excellent job preparing, while the rest of the U.S. Government class helped them research and organized the debate and election. The senior class as a whole did a terrific job preparing the process while dealing with restrictions that currently exist due to Covid, and administered the debate and voting process with excellence.

On Tuesday Mr. Kufahl's U.S. Government class conducted the final portion of their mock election when they allowed the entire school, grades K-12, to vote. While high school students voted during their lunch period, the seniors that make up the U.S. Government class took the polling booths to each classroom in K-8 and allowed the students to go through a mock voting process. First, students had to register by showing a voter ID (their lunch card). The students then were given their ballot, they would enter the voting booth and select their choice for president, then would exit and put their ballot into the ballot box. The ballot boxes were borrowed from the Onaga Historical Society and were used for actual voting at the old Victory schoolhouse years ago. Then, as students returned to their seats they were given an "I Voted" sticker. Students really enjoyed going through the voting process and the hope was that it as an exciting way for them to learn about the civic duty to vote that they will all have someday.
