Any students taking online courses through Allen County Community College and/or Highland CC, need to turn in their books for those classes during the June 2-4th student checkout dates at the Commons. Thank you.

Students in grades 9-12 that have personal items to pick up from the ag building may stop by on Monday, May 18 from 10am-2pm to pick up their belongings. All social distancing precautions will be followed at this time for the safety of everyone. Thank you.

Here are our tentative plans for student checkout. All items (computers, textbooks) need to be brought back to school in trash bags from home. Student checkout will run from June 2- June 4. 7th-12th graders will have designated times (will be communicated shortly) according to their class and will return computers and books to the Commons area. They will go through a checkout list procedure at this time to ensure everything has been returned and have the opportunity to make any payments (lunch, class dues, etc) at this time as well. Elementary students will have designated time slots per family (like we did in March) to enter the west main entrance where there will be tables set up for students to return books and computers. Mrs. Utley will be setting these up with families. Each elementary teacher will have a checklist for their respective class that we will utilize during the process to ensure we get everything back that is needed. Parents will have the opportunity at this time to pay any bills as well.

The summer weights program will start up in June with the specific date and time yet to be determined. Please stay tuned by checking your e-mail, and Google Classroom. This information is coming soon, and Mr. Noel said once he has the information he needs, he will post it everywhere.

The horticulture classes plants are ready to go. The plant sale will be from 2-5 pm beginning Tuesday, May 12, and will continue until the plants are gone. The 2020 Senior Graduation will take place on Sat, July 11 at 9am at the football field. The rain date will be Sun, July 12 at 7pm- same location. If restrictions would prevent this from occurring, we will have a virtual graduation in mid-late July. Thanks for your patience.

If any parents are interested in their K-3 child (2019-20 school year) taking part in the virtual KRR program this summer, please contact Mrs. Rempe at rempes@usd322.org. The focus of this program is reading, math and STEM learning. Thank you.

While some restrictions have been lifted and it’s tempting to stop following protective measures, the Covid 19 virus is still serious. It is still important to keep yourself a safe distance away from others (at least 6 feet away), avoid touching your face, and to wash your hands frequently during this time. We must continue to stay safe and stay alert.

Something you can do while in quarantine is home improvement. It can be as simple as painting the walls, if you have the materials, or tidyng up the house.

There are only a couple weeks left of online schooling! Stay responsible and get your work done and turned in so you can enjoy the warm weather of the summer to come!

Wednesday, April 22, 2020 was the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, so if you get the chance, pick up any trash off the ground or in your yard. It doesn’t matter if it’s Earth Day or not, every day we should help preserve the environment.

With tornado season here, these are some safety tips: Go to a windowless interior room on the lowest level of your house. Get away from the windows. Go to the center of the room. Listen to local area radio, NOAA radio or TV stations for the latest information and updates.

May is Mental Health Awareness month, so it is important that you are making choices to benefit your mental health. A couple of things you could do to refresh your mind, is going outside, reading, or even just staying in and watching TV!

Congratulations to Onaga High School!!!! The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force has named 92 schools as recipients of the 2019 Challenge Awards. The awards recognize Kansas schools that are making a notable difference in student achievement despite facing significant challenges in their school population. Since its inception in 2002, more than 1,700 awards have been presented to schools across the state. Certificates of Merit were presented to schools by Kansas State Board of Education members. The Challenge Award recognizes schools for outstanding achievement and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas assessment results in math and reading, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism rates and the socio-economic status of those taking the test. The Confidence in Public Education Task Force is a nonprofit corporation whose primary purpose is to strengthen confidence in Kansas public education and to increase awareness of the positive aspects of public education in the state. The Task Force was created in 1981.
