
After three and a half months of practice, over 29 combined games, and a lot of hard work, the junior high basketball teams wrap up their seasons tonight in the final round of the Oregon Trail League Tournament.
Games get underway at 6:00pm this evening with the final girls games. The Onaga girls will be playing for 3rd place medals in the south gym, as the #4 seed Buffaloes take on #3 seed Sts. Peter & Paul. In the north gym it'll be #1 Centralia taking on #2 seeded Doniphan West for the championship.
The second round of games will begin after the conclusion of the girls games and feature the final boys games. In the south gym #3 Frankfort will take on #4 Sts. Peter & Paul for 3rd place, while in the new gym the #2 seeded Buffaloes will be taking on #1 Doniphan West for the league title.
Also, the concession stand will be putting on a benefit this evening. All proceeds from tonight's meal will be donated to Theresa Duffield to help cover medical expenses. The FFA is also donating all proceeds from drinks to the cause, and they will also be raffling off a meat basket as well.
It will be a fun night of basketball to end the junior high seasons, so come out, GET LOUD, and cheer on the boys and girls to wins in their final games! The crowd on Monday was one of the best we've seen in years, let's do it again! A reminder, the Booster Club is paying the entry fee for all K-12 students who want to attend the games today.

It's signing day at Onaga High School for one hardworking senior. This afternoon at 12:30pm, senior Jaeden Abitz will be signing her Letter of Intent to the University of Saint Mary to be on their dance team next fall. Jaeden's signing will take place in the commons area right after lunch and is open to the public.
Congratulations Jaeden, we look forward to seeing the great things you'll do in your next chapter!


The high school basketball teams are on the road tonight for the first of two trips in league play this week, as they head to Frankfort for game against the Wildcats. The JV girls will get things started in the primary gym at 4:45pm, followed by the varsity girls at 6:00pm. During the varsity girls game the JV boys will also be playing three quarters in the secondary gym. Finally, the varsity boys will wrap up the night after the girls are done in the primary gym.

The Semifinals of the OTL basketball tournament are in the books! The updated brackets are attached below. Come out and support our JH Buffaloes this Thursday as we conclude the tournament. Our girls will start off the night in the South Gym against Sts. Peter and Paul at 6:00 for 3rd place. Then our boys will be vying for a Championship at 7:15 against the top seeded Doniphan West in the North Gym. Thanks to everyone who came out last night and showed their support. The junior high boys knocked off #3 seed Frankfort in the semifinals of the OTL Tournament tonight, advancing to the finals on Thursday night. The girls will play for 3rd place in the south gym at 6:00pm against #3 seeded Sts. Peter & Paul, then they boys will play the championship game in the north gym around 7:15pm against #1 seed Doniphan West.
A big shout out to the fans tonight who came out and were LOUD. It was a great atmosphere, and made a huge difference. Come out again on Thursday and help cheer on the girls and boys as they wrap up their seasons.

Thanks to SBS Insurance in Onaga, all junior high and high school students attending the junior high OTL Tournament games tonight will get FREE admission! Due to it being the league tournament, student passes are not able to be used this evening. But SBS Insurance is going to take care of that cost for all of our junior high and high school students who come out and support the Buffaloes tonight!
Games start at 6:00pm with the girls semifinal game in the north gym, and the boys semifinal will follow. Students can check in at either the east or west gates to receive free admission.

The junior high basketball league tournament continues today, with all games being played right here in Onaga. Tonight is the semifinal round with two games in each gym beginning at 6:00pm.
The girls entered the tournament as the #4 seed and won their opening round game against #5 Frankfort last Thursday. They will take on #1 seed Centralia tonight in the opening game in the north gym at 6:00pm. The boys are the #2 seed and, after a first-round bye, will be taking on #3 seed Frankfort. The game is scheduled for 7:15pm, and will follow the girls' game in the north gym.
The tournament is right here in Onaga and both teams are one game away from playing for a league championship. Come out, BE LOUD, and help cheer on the teams to the finals. Your presence, and your engagement during games truly is a difference maker for our student-athletes, so come out and help them get to the title game!

The junior high basketball teams are looking for league titles this week, the TVL champion scholars bowl team heads to regionals, and the wrestling team celebrates senior night. Here is the schedule for the week!


The high school wrestling team was on the road today in Atchison and came away with three placers on both the girls and boys side. They will next be in action on Friday, February 7th in Onaga which will also be senior night.

It's Winter Royalty tonight in Onaga, as the high school basketball teams get set to host Clifton-Clyde in a TVL battle. Due to illness on the Eagles girls team, their JV game has been cancelled tonight. That will mean that all games will be played in the north gym, with JV boys getting things rolling at 4:45pm. The varsity girls will follow but won't begin before 6:00pm, then the varsity boys will wrap up the night with the final game. The crowning of the king and queen will take place after the conclusion of the boys game.

The junior high girls team knocked off Frankfort last night in the opener of the OTL Tournament, moving them on to the semifinal round. The #4 seeded Buffaloes will now take on #1 seeded Centralia at 6:00pm in the north gym on Monday night, right here in Onaga.
The boys team entered as the #2 seed in the tournament and received a bye in the first round. After last night's opening-round games they now know they'll be taking on #3 seed Frankfort in the semifinals on Monday night at 7:15pm, right after the girls' game.
It'll be back-to-back semifinal games featuring the Onaga girls and boys teams on Monday night, and they're being played at home. Come out, BE LOUD, and help cheer on the junior high basketball teams to the championship games!

Our girls won their first game and will face off against Centralia next Monday at 6:00 in the North Gym. Our boys enjoyed their bye round by cheering on the girls but get back to business on Monday when they face Frankfort at 7:15 in the North Gym. Let's go Buffs!



The OTL Tournament begins tonight in Onaga, and the junior high girls will be playing the first girls game of the week-long event this evening. The Buffaloes finished 6-7 on the season and earned the #4 seed with their league mark, setting them up with a first round matchup with #5 seeded Frankfort. The two teams will tip off at 6:00pm in the north gym.
The boys team finished 11-2 on the season and enters as the #2 seed, meaning they received a first round bye. They will take on the winner of #3 Frankfort and #6 Axtell on Monday night at 7:15pm.

The Onaga High School Scholars Bowl team won the TVL League Championship today! The group went 10-0 to take the title. Congratulations to members, Carmella Garcia-Losadac, Gavin Kolterman, Dylan Magnett, Wyatt Boggs, Lillie Weiser, Brayden Poell and Coach Hannah Kolterman
The Buffalos will compete in the KSHSAA Regional meet on Feb. 6th at Frankfort. Good luck.

Winter Royalty will be celebrated Friday, January 31st. King candidates for the 24-25 year are Wyatt Boggs, Francesco Giolo, LJ Koelzer, and Dylan Magnett. Queen candidates are Jaeden Abitz, Bridgett Campbell, Natalie Conger, and Delaney Figge. The crowning will take place after the varsity boys game followed by the dance sponsored by STUCO. Come cheer on the Buffalos and congratulate the candidates!

Senior L.J. Koelzer will be the featured student-athlete on the news this evening. During his time at Onaga, he's played football for four years, basketball for three years, and baseball for four years. On the academic side, he's achieved a 3.96 GPA while participating in multiple other organizations and activities. He's been a member of National Honor Society, O'Club, KAYs, FFA, and is currently the senior class president. After graduation, L.J. plans to major in Ag-Business at the college he chooses to attend.
