The Onaga Junior High football team heads out this evening for its final road contest of the 2020 season. The Buffaloes will travel to Frankfort tonight for a 6:30pm tilt as they look for their third straight victory over the Wildcats. Good luck boys and go Buffaloes!

Check out the super cool fish we made in Buffalo Fun Club yesterday, after reading the book, "Rainfish" by Lois Ehlert.

The HS Volleyball Triangular that was scheduled tonight has been called off due to other schools cancelling coming here. Mrs. Suther is working diligently trying to reschedule for a later date.
Also, sadly, there will be no more JH volleyball games this year due to the quarantine that team members are under and their return date is after the OTL Tournament.

As time goes on and we continue to deal with Covid 19, it is completely understandable that the school district's plan is more and more scrutinized for detail and intent. It is also understandable that the intent is more and more defined as we continue to deal with the pandemic. The part of the plan that calls for school shut down in either the K-6 OR 7-12 parts of the district states “students testing positive in 3 multi-grade, non-related, separate households/families” (so in other words just 3 kids not in the same family, grade or house) was NOT intended to include those already quarantined that may then test positive at a later date. The intent is if this happens within a weeks' (5-7 day time period) outside of quarantines, then the district needs to take the drastic action of shutting down those grade levels ---either K-6 or 7-12 for two weeks. If it happens within a grade level (like 3rd grade) that grade may be modified quarantine or regular quarantine depending on the situation and number of positives. When positive tests occur while quarantined it shows the system is working as those people are not in the general population. With a 14 day window for every case and every quarantine, there will more than likely be times where there will be more unrelated cases under monitoring at the same time. At present we do not have any reason to believe a single case of Covid was spread/caught here at school, and we are doing our best to keep it that way. We will also continue with modified and regular quarantining as needed and instructed to.

Due to the quarantining of the junior high volleyball team, there will be no junior high volleyball games this week nor on October 5. Thank you.

The High School football team met the criteria as "close contact" with a student who tested positive for Covid-19. All football team members will be quarantined through October 5th at home and will take part in remote learning starting on Wednesday, September 30th. If any players begin to exhibit symptoms of Covid-19 while in quarantine, the need to see a physician. Football games against Blue Valley & Wetmore this week have been called off.
Thank you.

Correction- Zero hour weights is from 7am-730 am.

Zero hour weights will be offered to all interested students in grades 7-12 starting tomorrow. It will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7-730 am. The program begins promptly at 7pm so do not be late. Later on 6th graders might be allowed to attend as well.
As long as we have decent student attendance we will continue to offer it. Coach Kufahl, Coach Dallman and Mr. Poell will each take a morning during the week to supervise the program. Thank you.

The Buffalo football team is back in action tonight, on the road to take on High Plains Community School out of Polk, Nebraska. The game was agreed upon this week and will take place at a neutral site in Linn, which is where Onaga was scheduled to play this Friday at the beginning of the season. Kickoff is at 6:30pm. Go support the Buffaloes tonight as they take on the Storm!

Birthday treat order forms will be going home with the elementary students today. With the rule this year that parents cannot bring treats into the school, our kitchen staff thought it would be a great idea to make the treats themselves! If your child has a summer birthday, or has already had their birthday this year, you can schedule a birthday party for them if you would like. More information will be on the order forms. Contact Karen Utley at the grade school office if you have any questions!

Good luck to the junior high football and volleyball teams tonight! If you can't make it out to the games, you can watch the volleyball team take on Centralia, Flint Hills, and St. Xavier and you can watch the football team host Centralia live on the NFHS Network at the link below. Volleyball starts at 4:00pm at the high school, and football kicks off at 6:30pm at the Rosenfield Sports Complex. Good luck and go Buffaloes!

Doniphan West has purchased PlayOn Pixellot cameras for their gym, just as Onaga has done. We have not confirmed if their cameras have been installed yet, but if it has, patrons who have purchased a monthly or annual membership can watch the games live on the NFHS Network.

Our cameras for the NFHS Network live streaming were installed this week at both the Rosenfield Sports Complex and in the north gym at the high school, meaning all events at those locations will be streamed live from now on! To catch tonight's football game follow this link:

Good afternoon-
There has been a change in the KSDE mandate regarding "daily learning logs" for remote learners that should be a relief to parents, students, and teachers.
KSDE will be sharing out a school and parent/guardian "remote learning assurances" document later today that we will send home to every family who has children in our school district. There are several assurances the school promises to make and several assurances parents agree to make and sign. The forms will then need to be returned to our school and parents and students WILL NO LONGER NEED TO KEEP A DAILY LEARNING LOG FOR EVERY DAY THEY ARE A REMOTE LEARNER.
Teachers will not have to monitor daily learning logs but are still required to take attendance, follow the school assurances, and make daily contact with remote learning students. Teachers will already be utilizing Zoom and Google Meet for classes, and that will count as daily teacher contact with students.
There is also a part to the parent/guardian assurances where the parents agree to call in their remote learner child if they will be absent due to an appt. or being ill. We will be sending home the assurances document either today or tomorrow to all to sign and return, whether or not your child is doing remote learning right now or not. We want to have them on file so that if kids have to go to remote learning, we already have the necessary documents on file . Thank you!
