The wrestling team is back in action today as it heads to Council Grove. After a chaotic weekend in Herington last weekend, the Buffaloes are ready to get back to work. Senior Rilyn Mayginnes is undefeated and this week was ranked #6 in the state of Kansas in 3-2-1A for his weight class, sophomore Landon Koelling is undefeated as well and was ranked #6 himself before being forced to sit out several meets, and senior Kaid Schwant also carries an undefeated record into the weekend. They'll look to lead the team to another successful meet when things get underway at 2:00pm this afternoon. For those attending, Council Grove does currently have a school board policy requiring masks in all of our buildings. Athletes and officials will not be required to wear masks while they are actively participating, but spectators will be required to wear them at all times. The wrestling team overall has been off to a great start to the season, good luck to them in Council Grove this afternoon! GO BUFFALOES!!!

The Onaga FFA recently participated in the Kansas FFA Northeast District Service project. The event took place at Marysville High School on the day of their district speech contest and was planned by the district officer team and the district advisor. Onaga has two members on the team: President Joey Marten and Reporter Tyree Figge, and ag teacher Keith Figge is the district advisor. The event went through the Outreach Program whose mission is to end hunger. Members of the district packaged 7,000 meals of macaroni and cheese, and these meals are being sent throughout the district to different places to be distributed to those in need. The district team wanted to make a difference and give back to their community. Service is a fundamental part of the FFA and the Onaga FFA was glad to do their part in this project. They hope the meals will make a positive difference in the lives of those who receive them.

The annual spelling bee took place on Friday in Onaga when nine grade school and junior high students showed off their spelling knowledge on the auditorium stage. After several competitive rounds, Lillie Weiser, Gavin Weiser, and Vivian Berges were the only three remaining. The three of them went several more rounds before Vivian spelled a word incorrectly, leaving only brother and sister Gavin and Lillie left. Eventually, the tricky word "conkers" tripped up Gavin. His older sister Lillie spelled the word correctly, then spelled the word "dingoes" to win the competition. Both Weisers will head to the county spelling bee with an opportunity to compete in the state spelling bee on the line. Congratulations to all of our spelling bee competitors who participated on Friday, and good luck Lillie and Gavin in St. Marys!

The high school basketball teams are on the road tonight in their final tune ups before the TVL tournament which begins on Saturday. The Buffaloes head to Troy this evening to take on the Trojans with the JV boys game beginning at 4:00pm. There will be no JV girls game due to the current depletion of players, so the varsity girls game will immediately follow the JV boys. That will likely mean that their start time will be sooner than usual, probably around 5:30pm. The varsity boys will then cap off the night with all three games taking place in Troy's main gym. Good luck to both teams tonight, GO BUFFALOES!!!

Thank you to the OHS Spirit Squad! We always want to keep patrons of USD 322 informed of what our sports teams are up to, but an often overlooked aspect of that is the hard-working ladies that make up our Spirt Squad. From cheerleading at all of our sporting events, to putting together halftime performances, making locker decorations for our athletes, putting together posters for them, and so much more, they are an intrical part of our athletics programs. Thank you for all of your work to help Buffalo athletics ladies!
