The annual Lift-A-Thon is coming up this week! Each year the Lift-A-Thon is held to help raise money for the Onaga Jr/Sr. High School weight room. It will be based on the total amount of weight a student can lift between the three lifts of bench, squat, and clean. Funding goes to new weight room equipment such as new rack systems, weight holders, bands, stereo system, etc. A copy of the form with more details is linked below, and a list of students participating is below as well. After you've made your pledge, come join us on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022 at 5:45pm in the north gym where our student/athletes will do their lifting.
Thank you for your support of the Onaga Jr/Sr High School weightlifting program, GO BUFFALOES!!!

The rescheduled K-4 music concert will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at 630 pm. Thank you.

The K-4 music concert that was scheduled for 6:30 tonight has been postponed due to the growing threat of severe weather(damaging winds, hail, possible tornadoes) to occur in our area during the concert. We will be sending out a new concert date/time as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding that we want to make sure everyone stays safe this evening.

Due to the weather, today's golf meet at Washington County and JV baseball game against Blue Valley have been canceled. Make up dates are being discussed for both and will be announced when they are confirmed.

Today Onaga will be hosting the Stampede track meet for junior high. This will be the last time the junior high track team will be competing at home this year, so come check out this record-breaking group of student-athletes. The meet just got underway with field events at 2:00.
Good luck to our junior high track team, GO BUFFALOES!!!

The OHS Alumni Association is hosting the annual Alumni Banquet on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 6:00pm in the school gymnasium, with a dance following at the Community Center. Due to COVID, the banquet has not been held the past two years, but the Association is looking forward to bringing back this important tradition to Onaga.
The 2022 graduating class and their families are encouraged to attend, as the graduates will be honored at this year’s banquet. To make up for lost time, the 2020 and 2021 graduates will also be honored and should make plans to attend the banquet as well. Many classes are planning reunions for that weekend and everyone is invited to join us at the banquet for a delicious catered meal. Afterwards, join us at the Community Center for the annual dance which will kick off at 8:00pm.
The cost of a dinner ticket is $20/person and can be purchased through Venmo @OHSAlumniAssociation, at Farmers State Bank in Onaga, Onaga Pharmacy, or Onaga Country Market, or by contacting Michelle Rager, Secretary/Treasurer as listed in the photo. Tickets must be purchased by May 1st. Go Buffs!!

Today marks the final varsity home games of the season for both the softball and baseball teams as they host the Rossville Bulldogs back at the friendly confines of Grover Eddy Field. The games with both begin at 4:30 and will be double headers.
Good luck to both teams, GO BUFFALOES!!!

The senior class enjoyed a local history tour today with Mr. Kufahl and local history guru Donn Teske. This morning featured some stops at local places like Con's Cave, the Big Fill, the ghost towns of Bigelow and Irving, and was capped off by a visit to Alcove Springs, which was a major stop on the Oregon Trail and where the Donner Party camped on their infamous trip to California. After lunch they learned about historically significant people to the Onaga area, connecting the dots from our local past to present day.

The high school track, baseball, and softball teams are all in action this afternoon in another event-filled day of Onaga spring sports. The track team is preparing to hit the road to Washington County for the Tigers' invitational. Field events kick off at 3:00pm in Washington.
Meanwhile, the baseball and softball teams host Wabaunsee in Onaga this afternoon. It'll be the first varsity home game for the baseball team in a month, and just the third of the season for the softball team. This is a make-up game that was supposed to be the season opener for both schools. First pitch for both baseball and softball will be at 4:30pm. It will also be Senior Night for both schools, the ceremony for which will take place between the first and second games at both fields.
Good luck to all of our student/athletes competing today, GO BUFFALOES!!!

GREAT NEWS! Our USD 322 band program is rapidly growing. With this year's 5th grade beginning band and the incoming band students for the 2022-2023 school year, we will have a shortage of instruments. To ensure that students joining the band program will be able to rent a school instrument, we will need to add to our already low supply of instruments. Please remember that beginning band is a requirement for all incoming 5th graders.
Mr. Hubbard is reaching out to the community for their help with any instruments. If you happen to have any instruments stashed in a closet or are no longer needing them, and would be willing to donate them to the USD 322 Music Department, please get a hold of the school or Mr. Hubbard. Let's help build the band program together!

It is a busy day in Onaga athletics today with three teams competing.
The Junior High track team is taking part in a make up meet that is being held at Frankfort. There was a time change and the meet just got going at 1:00 with field events.
The OHS golf team is making up the Frankfort Invitational JV meet this afternoon, which will be played at Cool Springs Golf Course in Onaga. The golf meet will begin at 3:30.
The OHS baseball team is headed East this afternoon to play a double-header against Kansas City Christian. The games will not be played at the school, rather they will be played at at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, which is located at 5801 W 115th St. The first game will begin at 4:00 and will be followed by the second with a short break in between.
Good luck to all the athletes that will be competing today!!

More scholarships are available to students at USD 322. Check out the link below to the "Counselor's Desk" on the district website. Mr. Polk has a link there for the latest scholarship deadlines that fall between April 30th and June 30th!

With the baseball and softball seasons approaching the two-month mark of their seasons and practices, as they tend to do, starting to become monotonous, the two teams got together Thursday afternoon during their practices to shake things up a bit and have some fun. All of the players divided up into three teams of ten players and played a three-team slow pitch softball game. The coaches umpired, coached the bases, and kept score. Despite a few sprinkles that, for a moment, threatened to end the game early, the game went all the way through the planned six innings. The players, and coaches, had a blast!
With just a couple of weeks remaining in the regular season, the boys are on the road Friday at Kansas City Christian, then both teams are back home next Tuesday when they each host Wabaunsee. They are two great groups of kids, so come out to the ballparks, cheer them on, and enjoy the final home games of the season next week!

Some of you may know Brenda Quigley (or her kids) and might even be familiar with Damon's Purpose. If you are not, Brenda lost her son, Damon, to suicide in January of 2021. Damon was a student at Centralia Junior High.
Brenda has become an advocate for Mental Health Awareness, specifically in our rural areas and surrounding schools, as she has been on the journey of learning to live without Damon here on Earth. Her advocacy especially vocalizes and supports the idea that "it's okay to not be okay" in numerous ways. From having sign-making parties with youth, speaking to kids and adults, and creating her Damon's Purpose page on Facebook (go check this out), she is paving the way for suicide awareness.
This Friday, April 22nd, we will have a Mental Health Awareness presentation for grades 6-8 and another for grades 9-12. It will take place Friday morning in the auditorium.
As always, you have the choice to "opt-out" if you feel this is something your child is unable to handle. Please call the high school office at (785) 889-4251 to do so.

The OHS track team is headed to Frankfort today for the Frankfort Invitational. After competing at Jackson Heights early this week, the team is ready to compete again. The meet will begin at 3:00pm. Go out and support your OHS track team!

If you placed an order for Onaga baseball/softball merchandise, it arrived late yesterday and is being distributed right now to the student/athlete associated with the order. Please check with them as they should be bringing it home after school or practice this evening.
Thank you for your support of OHS baseball and softball!!!

The annual Field Day for the grade school is quickly approaching. A fun way to end the school year for kids at USD 322, grades K-6 will enjoy games and contests on May 10th and 11th. Grades K-2 will do their Field Day at the school playground from 12:30pm to 3:00 pm on May 10th. Then, on May 11th, grades 3-4 will do their Field Day at the football field from 9:15am to 12:00 pm and grades 5-6 will do theirs at the football field that same day from 12:30pm to 3:15 pm.
Parents are welcome to come watch and enjoy as we wrap up the 2021-2022 school year with some fun!
