Mrs. Thomas's 7th grade OREO class got into the holiday spirit last week as they wrapped up the first semester of the school year. The class learned about land management and cedar control, and the process they cut down a Christmas tree for the classroom!

At the end of last week, Mr. Claycamp's PE classes spent a couple days learning self-defense techniques. The classes were offered by officers from the Onaga and Saint Marys Police Departments, with the goal of students learning how to get themselves out of potentially dangerous situations.
The first rule they learned is always to avoid the conflict or fight. Students were taught how to recognize an attacker and how to potentially get out of the situation. Students had fun learning these techniques, even though they hope to never have to use them.
Thank you to the officers who provided this training for our students!

The high school wrestling team hosted its annual Onaga Classic tournament on Saturday and came away with some hardware when it was all wrapped up. Overall, the team took 6th out of 18 total teams in the meet. Seniors Tatum Lara and Landon Koelling, for the second year in a row at the tournament, came away as champions of their weight classes. Landon is now 7-1 on the season in the 132 pound weight class, while Tatum remains undefeated through two meets at 7-0 in the 285 pound weight class. Landon brought home the "Most Outstanding Wrestler" award last year at the Onaga tournament, and the Buffaloes made it two in a row this year as Tatum brought home the award Saturday. The designation is voted on by all of the coaches and officials in attendance, making it an incredible honor.
Those two seniors weren't the only ones who helped Onaga finish the day as well as it did though. Senior Hunter Lamond brought home 2nd place in the meet, and sophomore Brayden Poell finished 4th on the boys side as well. On the girls side, senior Rylie Honas and junior Morgan Allan each brought home 4th place medals.
The Buffaloes will look to continue to add to their great start this season with two events this week. The team will head to Rossville on Thursday for the Struemph Jamboree, then will be at Chase County on Saturday for their invitational.
Congratulations to the entire team on their performance on Saturday, keep up the great work! GO BUFFALOES!!!

Parents, bus routes have been combined TODAY. This may mean later arrival times home than normal for some students. Have a great weekend!

On Monday, senior Natalie Jeanneret signed her letter of intent to play volleyball at Ottawa University for the 2024 season.
Natalie wrapped up her volleyball career at Onaga in October as one of the best liberos the school has seen. She finished this season with 339 digs, which was the most on the team by more than 100. Her skills as a libero earned her 2nd Team All-League honors as a junior in 2022, an incredible accomplishment considering she was the only libero to receive league honors in the entire TVL. She also was one of the best servers on the team this past season, as her 95.2 serve percentage was second on the team by a tenth of a percent. Her 1.72 serve rating for the year was also second on the team, just behind the team leading 1.74.
Natalie now sets her sights on her post-secondary career and plans to do that at Ottawa. On Monday, she signed a letter of intent with the Braves where she will be on scholarship as a libero defensive specialist. Ottawa is coming off of a 22-12 season and finished tied for 4th in the 14-team KCAC conference.
We want to wish Natalie the best of luck next year! We know you'll do great things!
