Six freshman and sophomores competed in a JV scholars bowl meet in Frankfort on Monday afternoon. This was the first JV meet of the season, and the team came away with some hardware. With 16 teams at the event, Onaga would end up winning 7 games and losing just 2. Both losses came to St. John's, the eventual champion of the meet. With those results, Onaga ended up coming away with 2nd place and a plaque to bring back home. It was a great day to be a Buffalo! Congratulations to the scholars bowl team! 6th grade boys basketball parents, please make sure to fill out the form linked below once your child has watched the KSHSAA-required videos within the form. Student-athletes are not allowed to participate in practices or games until those videos are viewed and the form is filled out. Also, the school needs a completed physical on file before they will be allowed to practice, as well as Form C (team rules & regulations) and Form D (permission to treat) which were handed out to the student/athletes at the meeting we had with them on Friday. Please also remember that open gym is held every Sunday for junior high students from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the school or email Coach Kufahl at kufahla@usd322.org. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdVO5Z6fwOy84hIw9FgXlEXKT-wfAtqRydezZ-LosV-8qQ6jA/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0

For their Halloween party this year, Ms. Kolterman's 5th grade class had a special guest. The one and only legend himself, Mr. Kite, came and read Edgar Allen Poe’s "The Tell-Tale Heart." Wren Hartwich, his granddaughter, arranged the reading and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you Mr. Kite for sharing your love of literature with the 5th grade!

A couple of students in Mr. Figge's class have taken it upon themselves to spruce up his room during project management time. Though the painting project isn't done yet, sophomores Jadyn Haskin and Addison DeChant are close to finishing, and it looks great!

Mrs. Glessner's middle school English class visited the Onaga Historical Museum recently over two class periods to conduct some research. Students picked an area of interest before their trips, such as a specific war, medicine, fashion, jewelry, trains, or another topic. Then when they visited the museum, students took notes in their area of interest and answered some questions, such as who a person was in their section, or what an item was that they would like to learn more about. After returning from their second trip yesterday, students will now be writing an essay about what they learned about their topic. After completing their informative essay, students will write a realist fiction about the possible life of an item they found. A great way to bring a writing project alive!
