Congratulations to Onaga's State Track and Field participants! This year, Onaga students took home a total of 4 medals out of 7 total events which is very impressive! We also have the privilege of having a State Champion this year with Lillie Weiser taking that honor with her win in the Pole Vault competition with a vault of 10' 6". Lillie also took 3rd in the Triple Jump and 8th in the Long Jump. Emmarsyn Fordham also medaled for Onaga with her 3rd place finish in the Shot Put.

Lillie and Emmarsyn were joined at State by Gavin Kolterman. Gavin finished 14th in the Javelin. Lillie also competed in the High Jump finishing 12th and Emmarsyn also competed in the Discus finishing 12th.

All three of these students are getting ready to start their Senior years at Onaga and we know they will continue to be successful. Congratulations again to these students for their hard work and great performances at the State Track and Field Meet.

The high school cheerleaders are selling peaches to raise money for their upcoming season. These freestone peaches are some of the best you'll find, and can be purchased by the case or half-case. They will be selling them through next Friday, July 25th and will deliver them in early August. Contact any of the OHS cheerleaders and get your peaches ordered today!

Rager Earns Trip to Nation’s Capital

During the school year, USD 322 art teacher Mrs. Becky Becker submitted
student artwork to the Congressional Art Competition, as she has done for several
years. This year, OHS student Alyssa Rager was selected as the 2025 Congressional
Art Competition winner, earning her a trip to the nation’s capital and the prestigious
honor of having her artwork displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol.
In June, Rager traveled to Washington, D.C., with her parents, Dustin and
Michelle Rager. Along with meeting U.S. Congressman Tracey Mann, the family took
the opportunity to tour many of the city’s monuments and memorials.
“I really enjoyed the War and Entertainment exhibits, but the one thing that left
me absolutely speechless was a flag they had preserved—not just any flag, but the
original flag that flew over Fort McHenry when Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-
Spangled Banner,” said Rager. “I could just feel the history radiating off the flag, and it
left me with an immense sense of pride in our country.”
The trip created lasting memories for Rager and her family. “Dustin and I felt so
fortunate to take Alyssa to Washington, D.C., in June to celebrate her Congressional Art
Competition win,” said her mother, Michelle Rager. “Attending the celebration at the
U.S. Capitol with other winners from across the United States and seeing Alyssa’s
photo displayed in the Cannon Tunnel at the Capitol were the highlights of our trip. We
will always be thankful for this experience and the memories we made.”

Last week Onaga held a volleyball camp for athletes of all ages. The high school girls did their portion of the camp first, then helped with the camps for both elementary and then junior high girls as well. Special guest for the camp was coach Cathy Foote, who lead the instruction of the girls throughout the three day event. A great time was enjoyed by all, and all the Buffalo volleyball players from elementary up came out of it better than before!

On Wednesday, Jackson Kolterman played in the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches All-Star game in Wichita. Similar to the Shrine Bowl for high school football, the KABC All-Star game features the top seniors from the state of Kansas in all classes, 1A through 6A. Jackson joined Zac Fisher and Colby Simkins who played in the game in 2023 as the only three players ever selected for the game. After being selected as a 1st Team All-State pitcher in 2-1A, Jackson pitched one inning in the game, as did the other pitchers selected. With his team up by one run, he took to the mound in the 6th inning and showed the abilities he'd put on display in Onaga over the last four years. The first batter he faced was from 6A Blue Valley Northwest, and Jackson struck him out in three pitches. Next up was a player from 4A Pratt High School, and after getting ahead 1-2 in the count, Jackson got him to ground out to second. With two outs, the next batter was Cooper Grace from 4A Hayden, a player committed to play baseball at Nebraska next season. Jackson threw a first pitch strike, then got the future Cornhusker to pop up to shallow right field to end the inning. Three up, three down, 10 pitches thrown with 9 strikes. He joined 2-1A Pitcher of the Year Corey Crumrine of Sedwick as the only two pitchers on the team to retire all three batters in the inning they pitched, and helped his "Navy Blue" team beat the "Powder Blue" team 8-7. Congratulations to Jackson on a great showing against the best the state has to offer, on a great season, and a great career at Onaga. We look forward to seeing your success continue next year at Butler and beyond!
