The high school basketball teams are back in action today less than 24 hours after their season openers against Linn last night. The Buffaloes are on the road today, heading for Northern Heights for a non-league tilt with the Wildcats. Games begin at 5:00pm with JV girls in the primary gym. Following that, the varsity girls will play in the primary gym while the JV boys play in the secondary gym. Then, to wrap up the night, the varsity boys will hit the court in the primary gym. In a back-and-forth game, the junior high boys basketball team pulled off a hard-fought win tonight at Sts. Peter & Paul. Now winners of three straight, they have a short turnaround before playing their first non-league game of the season on Monday when they host Blue Valley. Congratulations on the win boys! It doesn't happen often, but tonight is one of those nights that Onaga basketball will be out in full force as all four of the Buffalo teams will be in action this afternoon and evening. The junior teams are on the road today for another Oregon Trail League matchup, as they head to Seneca to take on Sts. Peter & Paul. The Trojans only have one gym, so games will kick off at 4:00pm with the B-team girls. The B-team boys will follow, then the A-team girls, and finally the A-team boys to wrap up the night. Meanwhile, back in Onaga the high school teams will get their seasons rolling in a Twin Valley League matchup against Linn. All games will be played in the north gym, with two quarters of JV girls beginning at 4:00pm. JV boys will follow, then varsity girls, followed by varsity boys to finish out the night. High school winter sports get rolling this week. Here is what is on the schedule through the weekend!

The high school basketball teams are on the road this afternoon for a preseason tune-up before they get their regular season underway later this week. The two teams are headed to Valley Falls for a jamboree today that will feature the Dragons, Maranatha Christian Academy, Axtell (girls) and McLouth (boys). All of the games will begin at 5:00pm and will play anywhere from 5 to 13 minute games with short breaks in between. New this year in Kansas is the option for each school to use a 35 second shot clock. Valley Falls has them installed in their west gym and they will be used tonight, but they don't have them up in their east gym yet so they won't be used in the girls' games. Don't forget, tonight is the inaugural "Basketball Tipoff." Doors open at 5:00pm and the Booster Club will be serving a free-will donation dinner beginning then in the commons area. They will be serving the dinner until 6:30pm tonight, so come out and grab dinner at the games. The high school girls and boys basketball teams will be doing their Free-Throw-a-Thon throughout the night, some beginning as early as 4:00pm. Around 5:30pm we will introduce this year's high school teams for the first time, then at 6:00pm we will start with the women's alumni game. When their game is done, we will have the men's alumni game to wrap up the festivities. So come out this evening and grab supper for the family, meet this year's high school basketball teams for the first time, then enjoy our alumni games while the basketball teams do their Free Throw-a-Thon, with all proceeds tonight going towards the two basketball programs. In a couple of games that ended with running clocks, the junior high girls and boys basketball teams took down Axtell tonight in league contests. The OJHS wrestling team competed at the Rossville Tournament on Saturday. With over 300 wrestlers competing, Onaga tied with Sabetha winning the most match points. Great Job Buffalos!

Join the Onaga High School wrestling program for a fun Saturday -After-Thanksgiving fundraising event and scrimmage. (The deadline to sign up for dinner is Wednesday. ) The day starts at 10am with an alumni duals (gate fee $5.00). At 6pm, you can pay $25 dollars for dinner, raffle ticket, and mat side seating for the OHS scrimmage, or just pay $5 for raffle tickets. Go Buffs.
