Sunday night open gym for the high school girls and both the junior high boys and girls teams resumes tonight. The gyms will be open from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Open gym for those three teams will take place every Sunday through the end of the season.
Tomorrow morning the Onaga High School wrestling team heads out to Chase County for another tournament. Wrestling begins at 9:30am and will take place on two different mats, so there will be a livestream for each. Click on the links below to watch either of them.

As we begin the second half of the school year, please keep up to date on the current Covid numbers at USD 322 by visiting our school website, usd322.org (link below). From there, you can click on the orange button that says "Daily Covid Count" and see the latest numbers for both quarantined students and staff. The chart shows the total numbers for the district, and divides the numbers up into K-6 and 7-12. It is updated every day that school is in session.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of former Onaga counselor Laurie McClelland's passing on Christmas day. Laurie served as Onaga High School's counselor from 1996 until her retirement in 2014. She touched the lives of so many students in a such a positive way during her time in Onaga and will be greatly missed. As one OHS staff member said, the world is less bright without her.

Sunday night open gym for both junior high teams and the high school girls will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm tonight. Due to KSHSAA's ruling on Christmas break practices, this will be the last Sunday open gym until school resumes in January. We hope to see you all there tonight!

The junior high basketball teams will wrap up the 2020 portion of their seasons when they go on the road this afternoon to take on St. Xavier. There will be no B-team games, which means that the A-team girls will kick things off at 4:00pm and will be followed by the A-team boys. The High School wrestling team is back in action today as it heads to the Kaw Valley Duals in Rossville. The 10-team meet will pit the Buffalo grapplers against ACCHS, Chase County, Doniphan West, Herington, Mission Valley, Nemaha Central, Riverside, Rossville, and St. Marys.
Action begins at 4:00pm and can be watched live on the NFHS Network, where Rossville will be streaming it. A quick link to the network can be found on the home page of the school website, usd322.org. Rossville will also be streaming the meet live on the Dawg Feed Facebook page.

To access that update, simply log in to usd322.org and scroll down to the middle of the homepage. There you will find five orange "buttons" that are quick links to frequently accessed pages within the school website. The first one is titled "Daily Covid Numbers" and when it is clicked, the document showing active cases within the elementary, high school, teaching staff, and classified staff can be found. The image below is of the button on the home page you will look for.

On the new version of the school's website, usd322.org, we have added orange "buttons" to the home page. These are located right below the photos that are on the home page and are direct links to the most visited pages and sites within our website. The NFHS livestream of athletics events, PowerSchool, the school calendar, and a link to request assistance with technology support from our technology experts at the school can all be accessed simply by clicking on those orange buttons on the home page.
In addition to those four buttons, we have added a fifth today. In order to prevent confusion and speculation during these unprecedented times, we have added a direct link to a document that will show the number of active Covid cases within USD 322. The document is divided into four categories: Pre-K through 6th grade, 7th-12th grades, K-12th grade teachers as a whole, and K-12th grade classified staff.
The count will be updated every day that school is in session and can be accessed by simply clicking on the orange button titled "Daily Covid Count" on the home page.
Congratulations to Landon Koelling! The freshman wrestler started off his high school wrestling career with a bang. In his first ever high school action, Landon won all five of his matches at the Onaga Invitational on Saturday, pinning all five of his opponents. He finished second in the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament voting which is determined by coaches and referees at the tournament. The future looks bright for this young grappler. Nice job Landon, keep up the hard work!
Tonight the junior high basketball teams are at home for the final time in 2020 as they host Wetmore. The games will start at 5:30pm tonight, a change from the original schedule. All games will take place in the north gym with the B-team girls and then boys each playing a half. Then the A-team girls and boys will follow.
All games will air on the NFHS Network, a link for which can be found at the top of the school website or on the permanent tab on the website's homepage. Team rosters can also be found on the school website under the "Athletics" tab.

Every basketball player wants to be great, but being great at basketball doesn't come easily. It takes work. A lot of work. Work that's done on your own when no one is watching. Onaga senior Chloe Fischer sure seems to understand that. She was at Sunday night shootaround this evening and wanted to work on her shot from the high post. She got the shooting machine out, set it up to alternate between three spots along the free throw line, and went to work. All by herself in the south gym, 654 shots. Oh and that took less than 30 minutes. She was in the gym working on a variety of things for two hours. Keep up the hard work Chloe!
