Our students and staff accomplished a tremendous amount within our entire district yesterday during our Leader in Me Community Service Day. Engaging in community service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most. These are some of the common benefits of participating in a community service program: 1. Psychological benefits: Volunteering increases overall life satisfaction and helps you feel good about yourself because you are helping others. It can also help to decreases stress and ease depression. 2. Social benefits: Volunteering engages students with the community, creates special bonds with the population being served, and increases social awareness and responsibility. 3. Cognitive benefits: Volunteering helps students enhance their personal knowledge, grow from new experiences, and develop better interpersonal communication skills. It also helps students develop civic and social responsibility skills and become more aware of what their community needs. Check out many of our pictures from yesterday's activities.

Many of the seniors spent the USD 322 Community Service Day with Mrs. Labbe and Mr. Kufahl at the Onaga Historical Museum staining a walkway, painting a roof, entering data, organizing artifacts, among many other tasks. They were a tremendous help to our museum's volunteers.

NATIONAL SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION APPRECIATION DAY National School Bus Safety Week is October 21-25. Designed to promote school bus safety, school districts throughout the state observe school bus safety week. School Transportation Appreciation Day is October 23. At a minimum be sure to give your bus drivers, transportation coordinator, etc. an "extra thank you". What makes school transportation personnel truly great is they are one of the few groups who go above and beyond when no one is watching and expect nothing in return. "It's what they do."

Red Ribbon Week 2019 begins on Wednesday October 23rd and ends on October 31st. Be sure to show your support for keeping our community Drug Free! Please take some time to talk with your kids about the dangers of making poor choices and how to “Just Say No!!” As your choosing clothes for dressing up with the different themes for each day, let your kids know WHY they are able to dress this way this week and what each day represents. Each day is a new theme to help support Red Ribbon Week and a reminder to stay drug free. Education and Prevention are our best tools to help young people stand strong in their choice to be drug free.
