The high school volleyball team improved to 4-2 on the season and 3-2 in league play with a sweep on Monday night. Onaga opened the evening with a 2-0 win over Manhattan Home School CHIEF, taking the sets 25-15 and 25-11. Later the Buffaloes closed out the night with another straight-sets victory over Frankfort, 25-17 and 25-16.
Senior Lauryn Marten led the offensive attack with 4 kills on the night, while fellow senior Abbie Ringel added 3. Junior Willow Hochstedler led the way with 4 aces in the contest, as the team scored 9 points with her at the serving line. Ringel added 3 aces of her own and helped the Buffaloes score 7 points while serving.
In the night's finale, the Buffaloes notched another league win with a straight-sets victory over Frankfort.
Senior Natalie Boswell led the team with 6 kills, while Marten added 5 and fellow senior Lillie Weiser added 4. Marten's currently leads the Twin Valley League with 34 kills and is just outside the top 20 in the state in 1A, while Boswell is right on her heals with 28 on the season.
Sophomore Avery Boswell led the way with 3 aces, scoring 6 points from the serving line for Onaga, while Marten was close behind with 2 aces and 5 points. Ringel set them up all night, registering 11 assists in the contest, giving her 71 on the year. She currently ranks 8th in the state in Class 1A.
On the defensive side, Weiser added another block to her season total, giving her 8 on the year. That's top 15 in the state of Kansas in 1A. Junior Willow Hochstedler led the team with 10 digs in game, her most of the season.
The Buffaloes now get the rest of the school week off before heading to Frankfort on Saturday. They'll have five matches in the annual Frankfort Invitational, taking on the host Wildcats, Cair Paravel, Jackson Heights, Washington County, and Valley Falls.
