OHS Journalism
by Staci Claycamp

This school year brought many anticipated changes to the journalism department at Onaga High School. The journalism department at OHS continues to grow in enrollment. The 2023-2024 year had 9 students, while this year there were 16 students enrolled. Students were put to the task of completing a weekly article for the Onaga Herald. With few parameters set, students chose to write about a variety of topics, covering many of the fascinating activities that occur at OHS. From highlighting new staff and students to writing about post-season sports competitions, students were met with the challenge of adding another deadline to their already jam-packed schedules.

Journalism students also had the task of creating the 96-page yearbook, titled “Our Journey”. This year marked the first year that the yearbook included all secondary grades, including middle school (6-8th grade). Adding the middle school into the yearbook brought some scheduling conflicts, mainly in making sure the additional sports competitions had a photographer in attendance.

The 2024-2025 school year has been a period of significant growth and challenge for the journalism department at Onaga High School. Despite the added pressures of tight deadlines and balancing multiple tasks, the students' hard work and dedication were evident in the quality of their reporting. As the department continues to evolve, it’s clear that this year has laid a strong foundation for even greater achievements in the future.
