Centralia Tournament

The golf team got their season started this week, as they went to Washington County for their invitational on Tuesday. It was a great day for the team overall, as it finished 3rd in the eight-team field, but it was Graham Valburg who shined brightest for the Buffaloes. The sophomore shot a career-best 85 on the day to take home 1st place as an individual. It was two strokes better than his previous personal-best, which he shot in the second tournament of his freshman season in the Frankfort Invitational. He finished 4th in that tournament, which was also the highest of his career until his gold medal on Tuesday.

Valburg wasn't the only golfer helping lead the team to a 3rd place finish, as senior Konnor Nider shot a 91 to finish 4th in the 40-player field. Koy Nider shot a 101 to finish tied for 16th, while Tatum Lara shot a 106 to finish 23rd in the event to help push the team into the top three.

Just two days later, the team headed to Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca for the Centralia Invitational. Though the team didn't do as well as they had in Washington, finishing 5th in the six-team field, Valburg was on fire again. He shot a new personal-best 83, winning the tournament by three strokes.

Joining him in the top ten was sophomore Josh Daniels, who finished tied for 10th in the 28-man field with a 94. Koy Nider finished 14th with a 98, Konnor Nider was tied for 18th with a 107, Tatum Lara finished 21st with a 111, and Maddix Blacksmith came in 27th after shooting a 124.

The team will have one meet next week when they partake in the Frankfort Invitational, but won't have to travel far as it will take place at Cool Springs Golf Course in Onaga. The boys will tee off at 2:00pm.
