Centralia Invitational

The Onaga/Wabaunsee cooperative golf team took home their second team title of the season on Monday when it went to Seneca for the Centralia Invitational meet at Spring Creek Golf Course.  The team is off to a hot start after winning the Frankfort Invitational to kick off the season, then finishing second at Washington County's meet.  In their third meet on Monday, the team won the tournament once again, this time behind personal-best efforts from Onaga's Konnor Nider and Wabaunsee's Eli Oliver.

The team would finish at the top of the six-team tournament with a final score of 346.  Nider led the way with his personal best 76, taking gold on the individual side for the first time in his career.  The junior bested Centralia's Paxton Bowers who took home second in the tournament, beating his top score which was previously the 84 he shot at the Washington County tournament last year.

Meanwhile, on the Wabaunsee side of the team, Eli Oliver shot an 83.  That is tied for his season and career best, which he set two weeks ago at the Washington County Invitational where he placed 2nd among all golfers.  That score yesterday tied Washington County's Carson Kearn for 3rd place at the meet in Seneca on Monday.

Onaga's Graham Valburg finished 8th at the meet with a 91, and Wabaunsee's Luke Wertsburger finished 11th with a 96 to round out Onaga/Wabaunsee's qualifying scores.  Six golfers participate for each team, while the top four scores are combined to determine the team's final overall score.  Wabunsee's Wyatt Wurtz finished 12th with a 97, while Onaga's Donovan Mason finished tied for 18th with a 107 to round out the varsity scores.

Also, Onaga's Koy Nider finished with a 48 on the 9-hole JV side of things, taking home 3rd place in that event.

The team is next in action on Friday when they head to Valley Heights for their invitational in Waterville at 3:00pm, then the team will be back home for the Onaga Invitational on Monday with tee time set for 10:00am.

Congratulations to all of the golfers on their hot start to the season, and good luck Friday at Valley Heights!
