A Successful Season for OGS Scholars' Bowl Teams
The Onaga Grade School 7th and 8th grade Scholars' Bowl teams have just completed a short, but successful season of competition. In the Oregon Trail League Tournament held at St. Pete and Paul School, Seneca, on March 1, the 7th grade team walked away with the Championship, winning against Axtell in semi-finals 55 to 40; and for the championship, winning against Frankfort 75 to 40. The 8th grade team competed well; however, lost their pool in a 3-way tie by a 5-point spread. There are nine league schools with Scholars' Bowl teams.
The season record for the 8th grade team in League play was 7 wins and 5 losses, with the wins being against Centralia, SPPS, B&B, Frankfort, and Wetmore. The 8th grade team did not fare well in an invitational tournament to Holton Middle School.
The season record for the 7th grade team in League play was 11 wins and 3 losses. Their wins came against Bern, Axtell, SPPS, Wetmore, Centralia, Frankfort, and Nemaha Valley. The 7th grade team placed 4th out of 12 teams at the Holton Invitational Tournament, giving the 7th grade team an overall record of 16 wins and 5 losses. Schools involved in the Holton tournament were Holton (3 teams) Sabetha (3 teams), Santa Fe Trail (2 teams), Hiawatha, Pleasant Ridge, Wetmore, and Onaga.
Members of the 8th grade team were Justin Cox, Rebecca Falk, Branson, Jocelyn Marten, Kori Meyer, Tyler Murray, Emily Roggenkamp, and Bethany Zidek. Seventh grade scholars were Mikel, Mitchell Duer, Jonathan Fairbanks, Rebekah Glessner, Jarod Gronewoller, Katelynn Kolterman, and Elizabeth Tucker. Nick Howerton provided the technical assistance during practices with the buzzer systems. The teams were coached by Debbie Berges and Anne Suther.
