Learning in a Fun Way

by Cathy Marten

January 15, 2009

That time of year where we get to take Kansas Assessment Test is quickly approaching. There are many things that teachers and parents can do to help students get ready for these test. The students have been busy taking test on our Kan-ed site that help them get acquainted with the format and vocabulary of the Kansas Assessment test. These test also allow the teachers to see what standards the students are needing help on. The Kan-ed site is a very good sight for students to explore for many other resources.  This web site can be located by clicking on the tab on the right side of our USD #322 home page. Students in grades 3 - 8 have usernames and passwords to get into this site.

Practice on all of the standards are helpful all year long, not just at testing time. Sometimes students can practice things they need to know in a fun manner that they will enjoy. I have found that one thing students could really use practice on is vocabulary. One web site that I have found that they can play and learn on is Vocabulary.com. This site is for Jr. High age students. Another site for Jr. High through adults is called TV411 . This site has vocabulary, math, writing and studyi tips for GED's etc.  As I find more web sites that your children may enjoy playing on that will also help prepare them for assessments, I will post them here. If you have found sites that your child enjoys that are educational, please email me so I can check them out and possibly share them with other students.

Thank you for taking an interest in your child's education and helping them find educational web sites to play and learn on.
