Speech - A spontaneous, original oral expression of
ideas on a given subject
about which the speaker has
had previous knowledge, preparation, and planning.
Informative Speech - A speech which provides a learning experience for the listener by instructing or by giving information in an interesting manner.
Original Oration - A memorized, original speech with a unique approach to a universal theme, which persuades the listener to adopt or change beliefs, values, actions, or policies.
Oral Interpretation of Poetry - Writing which expresses ideas, experiences, or emotions through the creative arrangement of words according to their sound, their rhythm and their meaning. Poetry relies on verse and stanza form.
Oral Interpretation of Prose - Writing which expresses thought through language recorded in sentences and paragraphs. Prose includes fiction (short stories, novels) and nonfiction (articles, journals, biographies).
Improvised Duet Acting - improvised acting exercise composed of two students who portray an original scene created after drawing the subjects. The scene should establish two characters, a situation or problem and a solution to the conflict.
Humorous Solo Acting - A humorous performance no more than ten minutes using scripts, characters, and acting.
Serious Solo Acting - A dramatic performance no more than ten minutes using scripts, characters, and acting.
Duet Acting (Humorous and Serious) - An acting exercise composed of two students who portray a memorized cutting from a published work of literature.
